O consumo de bebidas alcoólicas é relacionado como causa de mais de 200 tipos de doenças, principalmente, cirrose hepática, doenças cardiovasculares e vários tipos de câncer. O uso leve-moderado de bebidas alcoólicas, ao contrário do consumo pesado, não possui claros fatores de influência para as principais doenças citadas. O presente artigo teve como objetivo geral elucidar a relação do consumo descontrolado de substâncias alcoólicas com a perda de memória, baseado em pesquisas de alta credibilidade. Tratou-se de uma revisão exploratória integrativa de literatura com base na análise de onze artigos selecionados, os quais abordaram as consequências do consumo do álcool em quantidades suficientes capazes de promover alterações na homeostase do sistema nervoso central. Por meio desta revisão da neuropatologia humana relacionada ao álcool foi possível identificar alguns principais fatores que justificam as patologias causadas pelo consumo de bebidas alcoólicas. Os resultados mostraram que o consumo excessivo de álcool afeta negativamente os processos de memória episódica verbal, ou seja, armazenamento e lembrança, bem como o monitoramento de tarefas de aprendizagem verbal. Além da perda de memória, outras patologias se destacaram em todos os estudos, dentre elas tem-se os danos metabólicos ao sistema nervoso central, os danos ao hipocampo e córtex frontal, a perda da flexibilidade cognitiva e o envelhecimento acelerado. Conclui-se que existe uma relação negativa entre o consumo excessivo de substâncias alcoólicas e a perda de memória.
Doença de Cushing é causada pelo adenoma de hipófise corticotrófico que aumenta o nível de cortisol e consequentemente os níveis de glicose no sangue e o depósito de gordura nos tecidos e órgãos. Esse estudo propõe relatar o caso de uma paciente portadora dessa patologia rara visando entender a síndrome que o hipercortisolismo/adenoma resulta e discorrer sobre o desafio clínico. Trata-se de um estudo de caso cujos dados foram obtidos por meio de avaliação de prontuário cedido pela paciente, análise dos exames diagnósticos realizados e revisão da literatura. A paciente de 21 anos queixava de obesidade de difícil controle. Foram realizados exame físico, exames laboratoriais e de imagem os quais levaram a hipótese diagnóstica de adenoma de hipófise. Após o procedimento de retirada cirúrgica, o material foi encaminhado ao anatomopatológico para biópsia, que confirmou o diagnóstico de adenoma de hipófise corticotrófico. Há que se atentar para as anormalidades clínicas causadas pelo excesso de cortisol relacionados ao diagnóstico, contemplando a necessidade de um tratamento multidisciplinar.
A pandemia da COVID-19 pelo novo coronavírus (SARS-CoV-2) vem sendo um desafio sanitário de enormes parâmetros. Patologia nova, alta taxa de contaminação acabam por tornar a situação mais complexa. O presente artigo busca identificar médicos atuantes em linha de frente do tratamento de pacientes com COVID 19 que desenvolveram a Síndrome de Burnout durante a pandemia. Os profissionais da saúde representam um grupo de alto risco de infecção pelo COVID-19 por lidarem diretamente com pacientes infectados. O medo pela contaminação, pela transmissão a seus familiares além de toda sobrecarga de trabalho acabam por aumentar o risco de um esgotamento profissional. A Síndrome de Burnout (SB) configura-se como um fenômeno psicossocial, resultado da inabilidade de ajuste e confronto a estressores aos quais o profissional é apresentado no cotidiano e relacionado ao trabalho, sem a habilidade de atenuar esses sintomas e tampouco se revigorar. Este estudo apresenta como objetivo geral identificar o desenvolvimento da Síndrome de Burnout no profissional de saúde atuante na linha de frente contra o coronavírus em um hospital particular de uma cidade de médio porte no interior de Minas Gerais.
