Tomando o narrar como conduta através da qual a experiência humana é resgatada do esquecimento pelo narrador que, transmitindo-a de maneira absolutamente singular abre ao outro a possibilidade de viver uma nova experiência, propomos o uso de narrativas como procedimento investigativo dos campos de sentido que fundamentam concepções e vivências na área do cuidado materno e se articulam com o imaginário. Primeiramente elaboramos a parte inicial de uma narrativa que veiculasse um conflito materno, como os que frequentemente observamos em nossa clínica winnicottiana da maternidade, para apresentar a um grupo de estudantes de Educação Física, convidando-os a completar aquela história como lhes aprouvesse. Em seguida, contamos o final da história, previamente criado para esta pesquisa, encerrando o procedimento com um momento de reflexão do grupo sobre a experiência materna, então presentificada pela narrativa. Nossos achados preliminares, brevemente descritos neste trabalho, indicam o potencial heurístico de tal procedimento que, respeitando a regra fundamental do método psicanalítico -associação livre e atenção flutuante -presta-se não somente à investigação dos sentidos que sustentam a experiência humana, como também ao questionamento e/ou modificação de idéias pré-concebidas e posturas assumidas diante dos conflitos apresentados.
