RESUMO -O objetivo deste trabalho foi utilizar uma escala de severidade para algumas doenças do maracujazeiro, visando à identificação de fontes de resistência. Foram avaliados 75 acessos de Passiflora spp. em condições de campo, sob alta infecção natural dos patógenos, para a severidade da virose, nas folhas (VIFO), frutos (VIFR) e distribuição na planta (VIPL), bem como para verrugose nos frutos e ramos (VEFR e VERA, respectivamente) e antracnose nos frutos (ANFR). Houve alta variabilidade para resistência às doenças, embora poucos acessos tenham sido classificados como resistentes à VIFO, VIFR e VIPL, sendo que apenas um acesso de P. setacea (BGM237) foi considerado resistente aos três tipos de avaliações para virose. A maioria dos acessos de maracujazeiro-amarelo e roxo possui algum grau de suscetibilidade a um ou outro sintoma da virose. Quanto à VERA, acessos de P. alata e P. cincinnata foram mais resistentes, embora P. alata demonstre maior resistência a VEFR. Alguns acessos de P. edulis comportam-se como moderadamente resistente à VERA e VEFR. A maioria dos acessos de P. alata, P. cincinnata e P. setacea não apresentou sintomas de antracnose nos frutos. A escala de severidade adotada mostrou-se eficiente para a separação dos acessos de maracujazeiro em diferentes classes de resistência a doenças. DISEASE SEVERITY FROM PASSION FRUIT TO IDENTIFY SOURCES OF RESISTANCE IN FIELD CONDITIONSABSTRACT -The objective of this study was to use a severity scale for some passion fruit diseases, in order to identify sources of resistance. Seventy-five accessions of Passiflora spp. were evaluated under field conditions and high natural infection of pathogens. Symptoms of virus severity in the leaves (VILE), fruits (VIFR) and distribution in the plant (VIPL), as well as scab on fruit and branches (SCFR and SCBR, respectively) and anthracnose in fruits (ANFR), were analyzed. High variability for disease resistance was observed, although few accessions were classified as resistant to VILE, VIFR and VIPL. Only BGM237 (P. setacea) was considered resistant of these three types of virus evaluation. The most of yellow and purple passion fruit accessions showed some degree of susceptibility to one or another virus symptom. P. alata and P. cincinnata were more resistant to SCBR, although P. alata showed more resistance to SCFR. Some accessions of P. edulis were moderately resistant to SCFR and SCBR. The majority of P. alata, P. cincinnata and P. setacea accessions do not showed symptoms of anthracnose in the fruits. The severity scale proposed was useful to separate the accessions of passion fruit in different classes of disease resistance.

-The use of Passiflora species for ornamental purposes has been recently developed, but little is known about pollen viability and the potential for crossing different species. The objective of this study was to evaluate the pollen viability of six Passiflora species collected from different physiological stages of development through in vitro germination and histochemical analysis using dyes. The pollen was collected in three stages (pre-anthesis, anthesis and post-anthesis). Three compositions of culture medium were used to evaluate the in vitro germination, and two dyes (2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride, or TTC, and Lugol's solution) were used for the histochemical analysis. The culture medium containing 0.03% Ca(NO 3 ) 4H 2 O, 0.02% of Mg(SO 4 ).7H 2 O, 0.01% of KNO 3 , 0,01% of H 3 BO 3 , 15% sucrose, and 0.8% agar, pH 7.0, showed a higher percentage of pollen grains germinated. Anthesis is the best time to collect pollen because it promotes high viability and germination. The Lugol's solution and TTC dye overestimated the viability of pollen, as all accessions showed high viability indices when compared with the results obtained in vitro. GERMINAÇÃO DE PÓLEN IN VITRO E VIABILIDADE POLÍNICA EM MARACUJAZEIRO (Passiflora spp.)RESUMO -O uso de Passifloras como plantas ornamentais é recente, e por isso pouco se sabe sobre a possibilidade de cruzamento entre diferentes espécies, bem como sobre a viabilidade polínica. O objetivo do trabalho foi avaliar a viabilidade do pólen de seis espécies de maracujazeiro coletados em diferentes estádios de desenvolvimento fisiológico por meio da germinação in vitro, bem como via análise histoquímica, por meio do uso de corantes. O pólen foi coletado em três estádios (pré-antese, antese e pós-antese). Foram comparadas três composições de meios de cultura para avaliar a germinação in vitro, e para a análise histoquímica utilizou-se de dois corantes o 2,3,5-cloreto de trifeniltetrazólio (TTC) e o lugol. O meio de cultura contendo 0,03% de Ca(NO3).4H2O, 0,02% de Mg(SO4).7H2O, 0,01% de KNO3, 0,01% de H3BO3, 15% de sacarose, solidificado com 0,8% de ágar e pH ajustado para 7,0, proporcionou maior percentual de grãos de pólen germinados. O melhor momento de coleta do pólen com relação à melhor viabilidade e à germinação é na antese. O corante TTC e o lugol superestimaram a viabilidade de pólen, já que todos os acessos apresentaram índice de viabilidade alto, quando comparados aos resultados obtidos in vitro. The genus Passiflora is the most diversified of the Passifloraceae, and its palynology presents wide morphological variability. The objective of the study was to evaluate the pollen morphology of 18 Passiflora species in order to identify informative pollinic characteristics to contribute to the taxonomic classification of the genus. The morphology of the pollen grains and the exine structure were investigated using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Differences in the pollen morphology were found in the studied species, mainly in terms of shape, pollen aperture and ornamentation pattern of the exine. Most of the species belonging to the subgenus Passiflora presented ornamented 6-syncolpate pollen grains with an oblate-spheroidal shape and an exine with large lumens. In the subgenus Decaloba the pollen grains were 6-colporate, 12-colpate and 12-colporate, with subprolate to prolate-spheroidal shape, as well as an exine with smaller lumen size and few ornamented. The pollen morphology of the species of the subgenera Passiflora and Decaloba has shown palynological characteristics that have specific diagnostic value, thus allowing a better understanding of the taxonomy of the genus Passiflora.
