The aim of this research was to find out the effect of probiotic on blood cholesterol in laying hens. Materials used were laying hens (Isa Brown strain) 43 weeks old and ration using probiotics. This research was conducted by using completely randomized design (CRD). The advanced research was done with testing the local probiotic with various concentration treatment, they are P0 (ration without probiotic), P1 (ration + 1% local probiotic), P2 (ration + 2% local probiotic), and P3 (ration + 3% local probiotic) with 5 time repetitions and in every repetitions consists of 2 chicken. Variables that were observed in the advance research were laying hens’s blood cholesterol that consists of total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL), triglycerides, and total leucocyte. The level of total cholesterol on P0, P1, P2, and P3 were 129.00±38.26, 116.00± 26.53, 121.00±33.72, and 137.00±52.53 mg/dL (P>0.05) respectively; the HDL level were 50.60±16.47, 35.80±11.28, 59.40±19.74; 56.80±30.56 mg/dL (P>0.05); the LDL level were 100.20±49.53, 39.20±17.14, 104.60±51.23, and 96.80±66.22 mg/dL (P>0.05), respectively; the trigycerides level were 862.00±355.5, 533.00±146.1, 829.00±242.6, and 810.00±304 mg/dL (P>0.05), respectively; and leucocyte count were 22.00±1.72, 21.00±3.79, 31.00±3.99, and 34.00±3.55 x103 mm3 (P<0.01), respectively. In conclusion, the administrtion of local probiotic do not effect the blood cholesterol of layer chicken.
Paraquat is one of the chemicals that contributes to increasing pollution Indonesia. The careless use of paraquat can increase production of ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species), resulting in damage to a wide range of vital organs and reproductive system disorders such as infertility. ROS in the body can be captured by antioxidants. Red Ginger contains high antioxidants because there are active phenolic compounds such as gingerol, shagaol, zingeron, ginggerdiol, and zingibren which are proven to protect body cells from damage caused by ROS. This study was aimed to test the effectiveness of red ginger extract (Zingiber officinale Roxb. Var. Rubrum) on the quantity and quality of sperm in male mice (Mus musculus L.) induced by paraquat dichloride.This research uses a completely randomized design and is divided into six treatment groups with each four replications: K1 as the control group (only given H2O); K2 (paraquat induced a dose of 20 mg/kg Body Weight (BW) without the administration of the test substances); K3; K4; K5 (paraquat induced a dose of 20 mg/kg Body Weight (BW) and was given a red ginger extract at a dose of consecutive succession 6 mg / ml, 12 mg / ml, 18 mg / ml) and K6 (Only given a test material the red ginger extract as much as 18 mg / ml). Paraquat was given 2 times a week for 21 days and the red ginger extract was given for 35 days. The results of analysis by One-way ANOVA followed LSD at 5% significance level showed the ethanolic extract of red ginger can increase the sperm count, motility, viability and Morphology sperm of mice induced by the paraquat diklorida.
The leaves of bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) contains flavonoid, tannin and saponin which plays a role in wound healing. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of bitter melon leaves (M. charantia L.) ethanolic extract on wound healing the back injury on PENDAHULUANLuka menjadi salah satu penghambat makhluk hidup dalam menjalankan aktivitas sehari-hari. Luka dapat diartikan sebagai cedera pada bagian tubuh, yaitu ketika kulit dan jaringan dibawahnya kehilangan kontinuitas atau hubungan (Franzet al., 2008).Dari hasil uji kandungan fitokimia menunjukkan bahwa adanya kandungan flavonoid, tanin, saponin, steroid, alkaloid, dan terpenoid mampu untuk menyembuhkan luka (Wijaya, 2014). Senyawa-senyawa tersebut terkandung dalam daun pare (Subahar, 2004).Berdasarkan kandungan senyawametabolit sekunder yang terkandung dalam tumbuhan pare yang diduga berpotensi sebagai alternatif obat luka, maka peneliti melakukan penelitian tentang potensi ekstrak etanol daun pare (M. charantia L.) sebagai alternatif obat penyembuh luka pada punggung mencit jantan (Mus musculus L.).
Grasshopper is one of the diurnal cosmopolitan insect, the existence of grasshoppers is very influential for some other animal populations such as birds. It is still lack of information of diversity, distribution, population, and other basic biological aspects of grasshoppers at Kebun Raya Liwa (KRL). To monitor biodiversity, it is necessary to provide informations about the number of individuals, their functions, and roles in the habitat and ecosystem. Therefore it is necessary to conduct the research of these topics. This research was carried out during November to December 2019, at the Taman Hias Kebun Raya Liwa. Grasshoppers were cached in the morning from 06.00 AM to 09.00 AM, day from 10.00 AM to 02.00 PM, and afternoon from 03.00 PM to 06.00 PM . The grasshoppers was cached using a sweeping net by exploring the Taman Hias Kebun Raya Liwa. The caught grasshopper was identified at the Zoology Laboratory of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Lampung. The result show that ten species of grasshopper were found at the Taman Hias Kebun Raya Liwa, i.e. Phaleoba antennata, Phaleoba fumosa, Phaleoba rustica, Atractomorpha crenulata, Atractomorpha sp., Phillium crurifolium, Phillium sp, Trilophidia annulata, Oxya chienensis, and Melanoplus differentialentialis. The index diversity of grasshopper at the Taman Hias Kebun Raya Liwa is categorized to moderate with H' = 2.223. The best time to catch grasshoppers is in the morning from 06.00 AM-09.00 AM and afternoon from 03:00 PM – 05:00 PM.
Skabies merupakan salah satu penyakit yang disebabkan oleh tungau Sarcoptes scabiei. Biasanya skabies menyerang pada manusia dan hewan. Marmut merupakan salah satu hewan yang sering terkena skabies. Daun kemangi sebagai tanaman obat mengandung senyawa flavonoid, tanin dan minyak atsiri yang memiliki kandungan eugenol. Eugenol bersifat sebagai zat anti parasit yang dapat menghambat pertumbuhan tungau Sarcoptes scabiei. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh ekstrak daun kemangi (Ocimum sanctum) terhadap diameter keropeng yang disebabkan oleh tungau Sarcoptes scabies. Jenis penelitian adalah penelitian eksperimental dengan rancangan percobaan RAL ( Rancangan Acak Lengkap). Perlakuan dibagi menjadi 3 kelompok yaitu, kontrol negatif (NaCMC 0.5 %), kontrol positif (sufladex), dan ekstrak daun kemangi 100%. Pemberian perlakuan dan pengamatan dilakukan selama 9 hari. Data yang diperoleh berupa diameter keropeng dianalisis menggunakan One Way ANOVA dan didapatkan hasil terdapat perbedaan diameter keropeng (P> 0,000). Kemudian dilanjutkan dengan uji Fisher LSD (Least Significance Different). Hasil menunjukkan ekstrak daun kemangi memiliki diameter keropeng yang paling rendah.
