André Imich,Susan Kerfoot,Jo LyonsandAllan Sigstonoutline a proposed framework for future training. And as an LEA Centred Educational Psychology Training (LEACEPT) course, they argue that it can meet the needs of LEAs and the profession into the next millennium whilst retaining the quality and breadth of training necessary to enter the profession.
This paper explores a number of issues facing applied educational psychologists working within an education framework that has undergone significant change over the past decade. The primary focus of education today, that of improving standards for all, offers opportunities for the profession to make a powerful contribution through the application of psychological principles that, whilst benefiting those students with special educational needs, are also relevant for all learners. In so doing, the paper emphasises the need for EPs to be clearer in their focus, and explores some implications for the future training needs of the profession.
