Psychology in education – adding more value

Abstract

This paper explores a number of issues facing applied educational psychologists working within an education framework that has undergone significant change over the past decade. The primary focus of education today, that of improving standards for all, offers opportunities for the profession to make a powerful contribution through the application of psychological principles that, whilst benefiting those students with special educational needs, are also relevant for all learners. In so doing, the paper emphasises the need for EPs to be clearer in their focus, and explores some implications for the future training needs of the profession.
