Introduction: The Frailty Syndrome is not synonymous with disability, but may be a precursor of etiological and physiological dysfunction, which affects mobility before causing reduced functional capacity, explaining conditions of weakness, weight loss, and abnormal gait. Study design: This is an analytical, observational, cross-sectional study. Objective: To verify the association of handgrip strength, gait speed, fear of falling, and falls with the level of frailty. Methods: Study consisting of 54 participants, aged 65 and older, enrolled in a health care and monitoring government program in the municipality of Uberaba, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The volunteers were assessed for frailty,-non-frail group (NG), pre-frail group (PG), and frail group (FG)-according to the Fried criteria, and based on the outcomes of handgrip strength, gait speed, fear of falling, and falls. An inferential descriptive statistical analysis followed, with Chi-square and Kruskall-Wallis tests performed by the Stata11.0 software. Results: In the comparative analysis between the groups studied there was statistical significance relative to handgrip strength (FG and NG), gait speed (NG and FG / NG and PG), and fear of falling (NG and FG). There was no significant difference between the levels of frailty and falls. Conclusions: Frailty is associated with reduced muscle strength, decreased gait speed, and greater fear of falling in elderly people of the community.
World Health Organization Qualityof Life Instruments -Bref. AbstractObjective: To evaluate the balance, posture and quality of life (QF) of visual impairment (VI) people who don't practice physical activities (PA). Methods: Participated in thestudy 8 people with VI. Inclusion criterion: be registered as VI people on the Instituto dos Cegos do Brasil Central and agree to participate. Non-inclusion criterion: to have hearing or sensory impairment, cognitive deficits, labyrinthitis or practice PA. Exclusion criteria was not attending in allthe evaluations. The balance was evaluated by baropodometry, posture by the Postural Evaluation Software (SAPO) and QF was based on the questionnaire World Health Organization Quality of Life Instruments -Bref. It was made a descriptive analysis of the data, the baropodometric and the SAPO were submitted to the Wilcoxon. Test. Results: There was a bigger oscilation anteroposterior (AP) in relation of latero lateral in right unipodal support (US) and left US (p=0.01). In SAPO the significant changes were the angle between the two acromion and the two anterior superior iliacspines (p=0.03), vertical alignment of the righthead (p=0.04) andleft (p=0.02). In the QF presented lower scores in the environment domains 55.47% and social relationships 60.42%. Conclusion: The VI non-practitioners of PA have a significantly greater body oscillation in thesense AP, anterior head, shoulder protrusion, pelvic anteroversion and low AF scores.
Introduction: Rugby is a sport characterized by high and low intensity motor action. Therefore, the respiratory muscles need adequate work to maintain sustained effective breathing. Objective: To analyze the effects of high-intensity inspiratory muscle training (IMT) in amateur rugby players from the city of Uberaba, Minas Gerais, Brazil. Methods: This is a clinical study in which 20 amateur players underwent a pulmonary function test, respiratory muscle strength and physical capacity assessment. The participants were divided into two groups: 10 volunteers in the IMT group (G1) and 10 in the control group (G2). All the assessments were carried out before and after 12 weeks of IMT. Results: No significant changes were observed in the pulmonary function test. However, maximal voluntary ventilation, maximal inspiratory pressure, maximal expiratory pressure and distance increased significantly after IMT. Conclusion: IMT had beneficial effects on amateur rugby players. Level of evidence I; Therapeutic studies - Investigation of treatment results.
