Transbond XT adhesive with Transbond MIP or Opal Primo have clinically acceptable bond strength in wet fields. Opal Primo is a viable option to use as a hydrophilic primer clinically.
Fluoride releasing adhesives combined with antibacterial monomer can play a vital role in reducing white spot lesions by enhancing the cariostatic effect especially in noncompliant\medically compromised patients.
With technological advancements, orthodontics like other specialties has taken tremendous strides forward in the new millennium, especially in the applications of tridimensional imaging using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT).
The purpose of this study was to assess the role of a Bayesian classifier and back propagation neural network classifier in the diagnosis of severity of appendicitis in patients presenting with right iliac fossa (RIF) pain using Alvarado scoring method. The input parameters of the classifier are the pain site, pain nature, nausea, previous surgery, RIF Tenderness, Rebound Tenderness, Guarding, Rigidity ,Temperature, White blood cell count , Neutrophil count and the output parameters are different classes of appendicitis namely mild(Inflammation only), moderate(Inflammation, Faceolith and Turgid) and severe(Gangrenous and Perforated) appendicitis. The methodology used was a back propagation neural network and Bayesian classifier for diagnosing Appendicitis. The data set is based on the statistics already collected about the presence of appendicitis from patients data set of around 2230 records collected from BHEL Hospital, Tiruchirappalli, India. The conclusion is that Bayesian clas-sifier and back propagation neural network classifier can be used as an effective tool for accurately diagnosing the severity of appendicitis.
Anchorage conservation has always been a challenge in orthodontics especially in cases requiring group movement of teeth. The drawbacks of conventional anchorage conservation methods like headgears and intermaxillary elastics have been overcome with the advent of skeletal anchorage. Mini-implants which have been proved successful in several intraoral locations for anchorage, can also be successfully placed in the maxillary tuberosity region. However, this site is not commonly used due to the fact that the density of bone in this region is comparably low. But with proper case selection and application of sound biomechanical principles, successful treatment results can be achieved with mini-implants placed in this location. The case reports discussed in the article demonstrates the ability of mini-implants when placed in the maxillary tuberosity for en masse distalization of the entire maxillary dentition, its advantages and biomechanics.
Objective To evaluate the geometrical effects of double keyhole loop (DKHL) and T-loop and its forces and moments during en mass space closure using finite element method. Materials and Methods A 3-dimensional finite element model of maxillary arch was created and stimulated for first premolar extraction case with 0.022 slot Roth prescription bracket. DKHL and T-loop arch wire were created using 19×25 stainless steel and was opened 1 mm for activation using 2 different methods. The study was divided into 2 groups based on the loop design, method of activation, and degree of Gable bend. The stress distribution, tooth displacement, and moment-force ratio were calculated. Result The overall stress distribution was more or less uniform in all the groups. However, maximum von Mises stress was observed in the second premolar region for both the groups. There was greater torque and vertical control in the anterior segment and better anchorage control in posterior segment with increase in degree of Gable bend for both the loops activated using ligature tie. Moment-force ratio of 8-10 was achieved for both the loops. Conclusion Therefore, DKHL was as efficient as T-loop in producing the desirable biomechanical properties during en mass space closure.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
