Abstract. Upland red rice (Oryza sativa) contains anthocyanin, a phenolic compounds that can act as antioxidants and functional food for human dietary. The content of functional food on upland red rice is influenced by shading condition, but the production is also influenced by environmental condition, especially the availability of light. The study aims is to assess and analyze the effect of shade on the growth and production of upland red rice. The research was conducted using the quantitative method to obtain the optimal shading condition that can increase the rice anthocyanin content and relatively high production. The research was arranged in split plot design, with shade as main plot and the different of cultivar as sub plot with three replications. The shading treatment consist of 4 levels as follows: n1=shade level < 25 %, n2=shade level 25-50%, n3=shade level 50-75% and n4=shade level > 75%. The cultivar tested were (v1) = Labandiri, (v2) = Jangkobembe, (v3) = Ranggohitam, and (v4) = Paedara. The rice planted in between teak wood trees with different age and level of canopy. The research reveals that shades had an effect in decreasing plant production (the higher level of shade, the higher the decrease level of production), but the shades can improve the quality of red rice through the increase of anthocyanin content.

The performance of agronomic traits, genetic variability, and correlation studies for yield and its components in some red rice (Oryza sativa) promising lines. Biodiversitas 22: 3994-4001. Improving a new variety commonly depends on the nature and magnitude of genetic variability and its utilization, followed by selection and evaluation before being released into new superior types. The present study aims to estimate the genetic variability and relation between yield and its related traits of the red rice promising lines. The experiment was arranged based on a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Analysis of variance revealed significant differences among rice lines for 12 quantitative traits. The phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) value was higher than the genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV), indicating a negligible environmental influence in the phenotypic expression of traits. High heritability estimates coupled with high genetic advance were recorded for grain total per panicle and grain yield per hill. Grain yield observed a highly significant positive correlation with panicle length (0.63), percentage of filled grains (0.53), grain weight per panicle (0.54), and thousand-grain weight (0.52). It correlated negatively with days to 50% flowering (-0.61) and days to maturity (-0.48). The study indicated that panicle length, percentage of filled grains, grain weight per panicle, and thousand-grain weight are important yield-related traits and could be used for selection to improve the genetic potential of rice yield.
Cultivation of medicinal plants in the garden system can meet the needs of increasing the immune system for the people of Jati Bali Village. The purpose of this community service activity is to provide knowledge to the community about the cultivation of medicinal plants and spices in the garden system as well as the manufacture of liquid organic fertilizer from household waste as an alternative to meeting the needs of increasing the immune system during a pandemic. Activities that have been carried out to achieve the objectives of the Internal Community Partnership Program (PKMI) are through mass and group outreach to partners, training, and plot demonstrations. Through this activity, partners in Jati Bali Village have been able to cultivate medicinal plants and spices in the dasa wisma garden system. Partners who are actively involved in the activity have been able to produce liquid organic fertilizer from household waste.
