The objective of this study is to describe the influence of principals' leadership, work environment, and affiliation motivation on improving the performance of certified teachers at Private Vocational Schools in Tegal City, Indonesia. To achieve this objective, the current study carried out a research survey in Private Vocational Schools of Tegal City. Therefore, data collection was achieved by using survey questionnaire and respondents of the study was school teachers. Thus, this study used quantitative research approach with cross-sectional research design. Data were analyzed by using latest technique, namely; Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) based on Partial Least Square (PLS). The results of the study showed that the leadership of the principal, the work environment, and the motivation to affiliate were well perceived by the teachers. Both principal leadership and work environment had direct effects on improving the certified teacher's performance. The teacher's performance can be explained by independent head leadership and work environment variables, however, for independent variables namely; motivation to affiliate did not have enough significant influence. Hence, teacher's performance can be improved through the leadership of principals and a conducive work environment.
Communication skills on mathematics should be mastered by students to involve them in mathematics learning process. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Probing-Prompting based on Ethnomatematics learning model PPBELM on mathematical communication skills. This research is an experimental study with simple random sampling technique. Experimental group and control group was randomly selected. There are fifty one students divided to 25 college students within the experimental group, while 26 students in the control group. This study performed two times semester of 2017-2018 instructional 12 months. The instrument used to collect data is a test of mathematical communication skills. Test trials include content validity, level of difficulty, difference in power, and reliability. For the normality test using the Lilliefors-test, the homogeneity test uses a similarity test of two variances. The hypothesis test used by t-test. The results show that there is an influence from the Probing-Prompting based on Ethnomathematics learning model on mathematical communication skills.
Every life needs a very important role especially the role in education. Improving the quality of education can be pursued by the use of appropriate learning models so as to improve students' reasoning abilities. The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in the influence of Novick's learning model and the learning model that is centered on educators on students' mathematical reasoning abilities, Knowing the interaction between learning models and SAVI learning styles (Somatic, Auditory, Visualization, Intelectually) on mathematical reasoning abilities learners. This research uses the Quasy Experiment Design method. The results obtained from this study are that learning by using Novick's learning model is more effective against mathematical reasoning for students, there is no interaction between Novick's learning model and SAVI learning style on mathematical reasoning abilities.
This study examined the reliability and validity of a measure of classroom incivility within an Indonesian context. Data were collected from 334 participants through two stages of online questionnaire distribution. The measurement quality was evaluated through seven stages of partial least squares confirmatory composite analysis (PLS-CCA). Our findings confirm the multidimensionality of classroom incivility (class disruption, disrespectful communication, integrity violation, and use of the cell phone). In addition, all sub-scales of classroom incivility were negatively related to civility and prosocial behavior, and no significant difference was found between male and female students. Higher education institutions in Indonesia can use this instrument as a supplementary tool to evaluate the level of classroom incivility. We also discuss its practical implications in educational settings in general and offer suggestions for future research on classroom incivility in non-Western countries.
The ground reasons of this study is in what way transformational leadership is suitable to increase education quality in vocational high school. Meanwhile, the specific problems are as follows: (1) do principals’ competency variables consisting of personality, management, entrepreneurship, supervision, and social competency dimensions directly contribute and significantly influence to the principals transformational leadership?; (2) do school organizational conditions to directly contribute and significantly influence to the principals transformational leadership?; (3) do work ethics contribute and significantly influence to the principals transformasional leadership?; and (4) in what way is principals transformational leadership model suitable to increase education quality of vocational high schools’ principals. This research design was confirmatory factor analysis approach was Structural Equation Model (SEM). The result of this study shows that school principal competence contributes (24,5%) and significantly influences to school principal leadership, school organizational conditions (29,4%) and significantly influences to principal transformational leadership, meanwhile the determinant factors including school principal competence, school organizational conditions and work ethics contribute (0,856%) and significantly influence. A suitable principal transformational leadership model to develop vocational high school quality is through school organizational conditions; work ethics; principal competence rights. Based on these findings, a school principal should be guided by the main principle when he performs his work, in order to have abilities and skills in managing his school effevtively; a principal should have work-culture to achieve an effective school organizational conditions; a principal should be able to increase a culture of work ethics for school members by enhancing their presence to always come at school; has commitment to develop his school, educational institutions should arrange the planning of principals training about soft skill entrepreneurship in order they have maximal work ethics in increasing the education quality at vocational high school.ABSTRAKModel kepemimpinan transformasional kepala sekolah terbentuk dari berbagai asfek yaitu kompetensi, iklim organisasi sekolah dan etos kerja.Permasalahannya adalah apakah model kepemimpinan transformasional kepala sekolah dikonstruk dari dimensi kompetensi, iklim organisasi sekolah dan etos kerja. Tujuan penelitian ini mencari model kepemimpinan transformasional kepala sekolah di SMKN Tegal. Desain penelitian ini adalah berpendekatan confirmatory factor analysis. Jumlah sampel 200 dipilih secara proportional random sampling. Instrumen menggunakan “questionareâ€dengan reliability. Desain penelitian dengan paradigma kuantitatif, menjelaskan hubungan kausal variabel melalui uji hipotesis, dengan pemodelan persamaan structural (SEM). Hasil analisis menemukan kesesuaian model konseptual dengan model teruji bahwa kepemimpinan transformasional kepala sekolah dipengaruhi secara signifikan oleh; kompetensi kepala sekolah (24,5%); iklim organisasi sekolah (29,4%); etos kerja (28,1%); Model faktor kompetensi kepala sekolah, iklim organisasi sekolah, dan etos kerja secara simultan berkontribusi terhadap kepemimpinan transformasional kepala sekolah sebesar (85,6%). Implikasinya jika ingin meningkatkan kompetensi kepala sekolah, iklim organisasi sekolah dan etos kerja maka perlu dikembangkan model kepemimpinan transformasional kepala sekolah dalam model yang teruji ini. Berdasarkan temuan, disarankan agar kepala sekolah, memiliki keterampilan manajerial, memperbaiki iklim organisasi sekolah dan peningkatan etos kerja kepala secara maksimal
