Thinking capability is the most significant aspect in educational process and as every students has their own distinctive method in thinking will posses their learning concepts. Being a critical thinker means they have to be able to think more critical than any other people, by practicing their skills through comprehending the material and the content of the text. Therefore, This paper discussed the phenomenon of conceptual variations on reading comprehension through Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) strategy in Kuningan University and describes how the HOTS strategy improve the students’ skills in comprehending the academic reading text. The data collected by using a classroom observation and interview with students, were analyzed qualitatively by using categories formulated based on theories related HOTS stategy. As a result, the author obtains the various concepts on reading comprehension seen from the C1-C6 phase of HOTS strategy and critical reading. This indicates that the most of students have higher order thinking skills in comprehending the text in critical reading class. The findings are expected to be references for English teachers in the implementation of teaching strategy.
The 21st century is the century where science literacy into focus on science education or science. The results of the test PISA the year 2018 showed that the literacy skills of students in Indonesia are still low. The average scientific literacy of Indonesian students is 396 and still below the score specified by the OECD 489. Compared to other countries, Indonesia ranked no 9 from the bottom to the aspects of assessment science. The purpose of this study was to determine the magnitude of the influence of the teaching materials of integrated IPA learning outcomes and the improvement of scientific literacy of students in SMP/MTs. This study used the effect size analysis method that studied 20 articles. Based on the results of the research that has been done can be known as 1) the use of integrated science teaching materials with literacy has a significant effect on the aspects of the theme, especially on the theme of motion in everyday life with an effect size of 4,41 in the high category, 2) the use of integrated science teaching materials with literacy has a more effective effect on Grade VIII level aspects with an effect size of 1.80 high categories, and 3) integrated science teaching materials with literacy have a significant effect on aspects of learning outcomes, especially knowledge aspects with an effect size of 1.80 high categories
One of the goals of education related to character is that education must be able to instill character, that the function of education in Indonesia is to create human characters. Character education in students can be done through education, one of which is through teaching materials. Learning materials that contain character values can make students master the targeted basic competencies. The type of researchhused in this study is a meta-analysis by testing 20 articles. This study analyzes and calculates the magnitude of the effect of learning materialss based on character values. Based on the results of the article analysis, it can be concluded that First, learning materials with characteri have an effect on learning outcomes, especially the knowledge aspect with an effect sizeeof 1.17. Second, learning materials with character are more effectively applied at the junior high school level with an effect size of 1.41 in the high category. Third, learning materials with characters have a meaningful effect on the type of learning material, namely student worksheets with an effect size of 1.55 high categories. Fourth, teaching materials with effective characters are used at the high school level, namely dynamic electricity with an effect size of 1.78, while at the junior high school level with material/ themes of straight motion; energy and effort; simple plane; style; Newton's Laws; pressure; atoms, ions and molecules with an effect size of 3.03 categories high.
This classroom action research aims to improve students' knowledge and science process skills by using PhET simulation assisted by worksheets based on discovery learning models. The research method used is classroom action research. The subjects of this study were students of class VIII.E SMPN 14 Padang in the 2020/2021 semester II academic year, totaling 30 people. This research was carried out in two learning cycles, with the stages in each cycle being planning, action, observation/evaluation, and reflection. This research is said to be successful if the average value of the student's scientific process ability is 80. The data that has been collected was analyzed descriptively. The results of data analysis can be stated that the use of PhET simulation assisted by LKPD based on the discovery learning model can improve student learning outcomes which include aspects of knowledge and science process skills. The result of the study show 1) aspects of students' knowledge in the first cycle obtained an average value of 65.25 with a standard deviation of 8.45 while in the second cycle it was 80.45 with a standard deviation of 12.35; 2) the aspect of science process skills in the first cycle is 75.67 with a good category while in the second cycle is 90.50 with a very good category. Thus, the use of PhET simulation assisted by LKPD based on the discovery learning model has had a positive effect in increasing knowledge and skills of science processes.
