The motivation for the development of this work arose from the observation of maintenance in pressure vessels, which are categorized as highly hazardous security risk products. The costs of detecting failures in the production systems allow the result of the process to be safe and of good quality, using standardized tests internally within the company. The main objective of this work demonstrates the efficiency and robustness of the artificial immune system (AIS) of negative selection in the detection of failures by recognizing the vibration signals and categorizing them in the degree of probability and level of severity of failures. The intrinsic objectives are the application of the elimination of signal noise by the Wiener filter, and the processing of data-Wiener data using experimental statistics. The result of this work successfully demonstrates the precision between the experimental statistical and AIS techniques of negative selection; the robustness of the algorithm in precision and signal recognition; and the classification of the degree of severity and probability of failure
Speckle, which is a branch of optics that studies the interference pattern caused by the incidence of coherent light in a material’s surface, has some optical techniques and methods that can be successfully applied to determine properties of materials. In this work we used the method called THSP, Time History Speckle Pattern, in samples made of AISI 1020 carbon steel that were submitted to the shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) process, with the objective of identifying (qualitatively) the level of irregularity on its welded surface, by comparing these samples with a default sample, made with the same material. The technique of spekle by reflection was used for data collection. The results showed quantitative diferences between the default welded sample and the other samples, and there are good perspectives that speckle can be applied to determine the quality of the welding process, since the results showed more accuracy than visual inspection.

Photoelastic materials and Photoelasticity have been very effective in the study of the effects of stress and strain in materials such as iron, steel, concrete, etc. However, mainly because of human interaction, systematic errors are introduced during the measurement process, which directly affects the final result. When using small photoelastic samples, these types of errors can escalate due to the increased difficulty of handling. Intending to minimize systematic errors in the process of data collection, this work presents the use of an automatic loading device, developed by us, to apply mechanical stresses in small photoelastic samples. The device created has shown great effectiveness in photoelastic applications that uses a transmission polariscope, but it can also be used in other photoelastic techniques, such as reflection photoelasticity, as well as in other areas of optics such as Holography and Speckle. An important benefit is the ease and speed of handling that can improve the organization and quality of the activities in labs of optics.
