The study was aimed to investigate the phenolic compounds of Allium macrochaetum by LC‐MS/MS, as well as the antioxidant, antialzheimer, and antimicrobial activities of the extracts, and determination of the essential oil and fatty acid compositions by GC‐MS. The results indicate that malic acid and t‐caffeic acid are the major compounds in the bulbs. The main components of fatty acids were found to be linolenic (40.72%), oleic (19.79%), and palmitic (18.45%) acids. The allyl disulfide (66.97%) was found as major compound in the essential oil. The ethanol extract of the bulbs exhibited stronger ABTS cation (IC50: 55.90 ± 1.08 µg/ml) and DPPH free (IC50: 204.43 ± 2.17 µg/ml) radical scavenging activities than the other extracts. The extract also showed moderate cupric reducing activity with 1.52 absorbance at 100 µg/ml concentration. Only the ethanol extract of the bulbs showed weak inhibition (23.34 ± 0.11%) against butrylcholinesterase enzyme at 200 µg/ml. Practical applications Allium macrochaetum is a wild and edible garlic species which grown in Turkey, Iran, Iraqi, and Syria. A. macrochaetum has been used by local people in Turkish folk medicine as an antibiotic, and for the treatment of alopecia. The health benefits and nutritional values of A. macrochaetum were clarified in the first time. Phenolic compounds of A. macrochaetum were detected by LC‐MS/MS. The essential oil and fatty acid compositions of A. macrochaetum were identified by GC‐MS. Antioxidant, antialzheimer, and antimicrobial activities potential of A. macrochaetum were determined.
In this paper, a new species, Muscari tauricum sp. nov. is described and illustrated from Southern Turkey. It has similar morphological characters to M. aucheri and M. bourgaei except for its broad and several leaves, pyramidal raceme, patent and longer pedicels, small fertile flowers, and early flowering time that distinguish the new species from other Muscari species. A complete morphological description and illustration are given, including comments on karyotypes. The morphological differences among the new species and related species are also discussed.
ABSTRACT:Muscari species have been used as antirheumatic, stomachic, diuretic, expectorant and anti verruca in folk medicine. The species have also been used as food for humans and animals in Turkey. In this study, the antioxidant and cytotoxic activities of different extracts obtained from Muscari neglectum were studied. The antioxidant capacities of the extracts were evaluated with DPPH free radical scavenging activity, metal chelating capacity and ABTS cation radical scavenging capacity assays. The cytotoxic potentials of the extracts were determined by MTT and LDH assays on HeLa-cells (human cancer cell line) and NRK-52E-cells (rat kidney cell line). The aqueous extracts from M. neglectum bulbs (IC 50 : 2.83± 0.54 mg/mL) and herba (IC 50 : 8.52± 1.3 mg/mL) exhibited stronger DPPH free radical scavenging activity than other extracts, respectively. The ethanol extract from M. neglectum bulbs showed the highest ABTS (27.88 %) cation radical scavenging activity. According to the metal chelating activity test results, the aqueous extracts from M. neglectum herba and bulbs showed the strongest metal chelating activity (28.99% and 28.07%, respectively).
Objective: The Başkonuş Mountain (Kahramanmaraş) is located in the transition zone of Irano-Turan and Mediterranean plant geographical regions and in the southern part of the Anatolian Diagonal. A specific region in the East Mediterranean basin consists of an area that holds great biological importance and is a world hotspot. In this study, the small protected areas of the Başkonuş Mountain were determined. Materials and Methods:A total of 17 endemic and 9 rare taxa were selected based on their IUCN statutes, altitudes, and habitats. Their GPS coordinates were loaded on a computer and digitized in a map projection system. Distributions of the selected taxa were marked on a topographic map in the scale of 1/25.000. The 26 maps were overlapped so that the areas of plant biodiversity could be observed on the map. Results: Six small protected areas were defined on the Başkonuş Mountain. Several threats and conservation suggestions were presented in this study. Conclusion:Local data about biodiversity sources are limited. Thus, conservation biologists and government offices should play active roles in formal educational settings and employ alternative methods to the community in Kahramanmaraş.
Amaç: Çalışmamızda Calendula officinalis'in morfolojik değerlendirmesi ve geleneksel kullanımları verilmiştir.
Bu çalışmada, T.A. Osbaldeston ve ekibinin tercüme ettiği "The Herbal of Dioscorides the Greek" adlı nüsha kullanılmıştır.
