A utilização de aveia na ração melhora o perfil de ácidos graxos monoinsaturados, especialmente o palmitoléico, enquanto a utilização de 9% de farinha de peixe na ração melhora o perfil dos ácidos graxos poliinsaturados, principalmente ω-6 e ω-3.Palavras-chave: aveia-branca, carcaça, farinha de peixe, frangos de corte Chemical evaluation and fatty acid profile of broilers meat fed diets with fish meal or white oat ABSTRACT -The objective was to analyze the chemical composition and profile of fatty acids of broilers meat (breast and drumstick/thigh) fed diets with fish meal and oats. A completely randomized design, with five diets, three replications of 10 birds each, was used. Diets with 4.5 or 9% fishmeal, 10 or 20% oats, and control diet were evaluated. There was no difference in breast chemical composition. Drumstick/thigh of birds fed diets with 9% fishmeal and 10% oats showed greater amount of lipids than those fed control diet and diet with 20% oats. Composition of saturated fatty acids, as for breast and as for drumstick/thigh, did not differ between the birds. Diet with 20% oats increased the amount of palmitoleic acid in the breast in comparison to that with 9% fishmeal. Accretion of fatty acid in drumstick/thigh was higher in birds fed both diets with oats and lower in those fed diet with 9% fishmeal. Diet with 9% fishmeal showed greater potential to increase polyunsaturated fatty acids ω3 (alfa-linolenic) in breast and ω6 in drumstick/thigh, as compared to diets with oats. However, diet with 9% fishmeal showed greater accretion of ω3 in drumstick/thigh. Use of oats in diet improves the prof...
Studies were carried out to isolate and identify microorganisms for probiotic use for chickens. Selection of strains included various criteria such as agreement with bio-safety aspects, viability during storage, tolerance to low pH/ gastric juice, bile, and antimicrobial activity. The strains were isolated from the crop, proventriculus, gizzard, ileum and caeca of chicken. Decimal dilution of the contents of these segments were mixed with MRS medium and incubated for 48 h at 37°C under anaerobiosis. The identity of the culture was based on characteristics of lactobacilli as presented in the Bergey's Manual of Determinative Bacteriology, carrying out bacterioscopy (morphology), Gram stain, growth at 15 and 45°C, and fermentation of different carbon sources. Based on these criteria, Lactobacillus fermentum LPB was identified and tested for probiotic use for chickens. The isolate was evaluated for poultry feeds supplement. The results showed that in comparison to the presence and effects of antibiotics, L. fermentum LPB implantation resulted in a similar effect as that of antibiotics manifested by feed efficiency in growth of chicks.

ABSTRACT An evaluation of the use of Probiotics developed at the Laboratory from many microorganism strains has been carried out. A total of 1600 broilers were used in a completely randomized block designed under four treatments: 1. Broilers treated with antibiotic but without probiotic; 2. Without antibiotic and without probiotic; 3. With probiotic A (Lactobacillus fermentum LPB); 4. With probiotic B (pool of microorganism strains: L. acidophillus, L. fermentum LPB, L. plantarum A6, Saccharomyces boullardii). No significant differences between the treatments with or without probiotics were observed in the results obtained which also showed no effect on the performance of the broilers.
In recent times, there has been increasing interest on developing probiotics of food and feed value. To develop a probiotic for a particular organism, it is needful to know the micro-flora of its alimentary tract. Although, Pasteur's observation suggested that the host and its intestinal micro-flora were interdependent, the intellectual origins of probiosis started with the work of Metchnikoff in 1907 who thought that on balance the intestinal micro-flora was detrimental to the host because of the absorption of toxic bacterial metabolites. A study was designed to isolate and identify the microbial strains suitable for probiotic application in chicken. The aim was to provide beneficial micro-organisms that were not present in the alimentary tract of the chicken, or those who could exert beneficial effect. The selection of the strain was in agreement with bio-safety aspects, viability during storage, tolerance for low pH/gastric juice bile, resistance for antibiotics and anti-microbial activity. The following sources were used for strain isolation: crops, proventriculus, gizzard, ileum and caeca of chicken. Diluted samples were mixed with MRS medium (Merck) and incubated at 37 o C for 24 h in anaerobiosis. Identification of the strains was done as per the Bergey's Manual of Determinative Bacteriology. Finally, one strain was selected for probiotic application in chicken and it was identified as Lactobacillus fermentum (designated as L. fermentum LPB).
