Spatial variability of soil resistance to penetration in an Oxisol ABSTRACTThe objective of this study was to evaluate the spatial variability of the penetration resistance of an Oxisol. The field experiment was installed in the Experimental Farm of the Federal University of Grande Dourados, Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. An experimental area of 5.02 ha and sampling grid of 25 x 25 m, with points georeferenced using a GPS, was used. The penetration resistance was determined using a 60 cm penetrometer rod. The soil humidity in the area at the time of data collection was 18.5 % dry base . Data were analyzed using the geostatistics software GS+ and the maps were made in the software Surfer, version 8. The layer ranging between 12 and 16 cm showed higher mean resistance values than the other studied layers. The spatial dependence degree was classified as moderate for all layers. The models that best fitted the spatial distribution of the penetration resistance values were the exponential (depths of 12 and 16 cm) and linear models (8 and 20 cm). The sampled data can be used to build a GIS database for future analysis and decision making regarding the procedures for soil management.
ABSTRACTThis experiment was installed with the aim of evaluating the substrates effect with different chemical and physical characteristics in the formation of seedling of Cedrela fissilis Vell. (cedro rosa), Eucalyptus grandis W. Hill ex Maiden (eucalipto), Acacia holocericea A. Cunn. ex G. Don (acacia) and Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi (aroeirinha) produced in tubes of 55 cm 3 . The substrates had been constituted of several combinations of the following materials: húmus of earthworm, tanned cattle manure, fertilizer of hen, turf, rind of processed peanut, carbonized rind of rice, coffee straw. The experimental outline used was entirely randomized. The morphologic parameters of seedling and their relations were evaluated. The pits were filled with two types of fertilization: cattle manure and cattle manure + conditioning of soil in field. The data were submitted to the analysis of variance and the test of average (Newman-Keuls 5%). The results obtained in the nursery stage that can be recommended for production of seedlings of the studied essences were the base substrates of earthworm humus, peanut peel processed and peat. In the field stage, except for the species acacia, for the variable height of the plants, the fertilization with cattle manure + conditioning of soil was the best for all the appraised variables, providing better development of the seedlings in relation to the fertilization with cattle manure only. Multivariate analysis and Geostatistics of the fertility of a huMic... 467 r. Bras. ci. solo, 36:467-474, 2012 Multivariate analysis and Geostatistics of the fertility of a huMic rhodic hapludox under coffee cultivation (1) samuel de assis silva (2) & Julião soares de souza lima (3) suMMary the spatial variability of soil and plant properties exerts great influence on the yeld of agricultural crops. this study analyzed the spatial variability of the fertility of a humic rhodic hapludox with arabic coffee, using principal component analysis, cluster analysis and geostatistics in combination. the experiment was carried out in an area under Coffea arabica l., variety catucai 20/15 -479. the soil was sampled at a depth 0.20 m, at 50 points of a sampling grid. the following chemical properties were determined: p, K + , ca 2+ , Mg 2+ , na + , s, al 3+ , ph, h + al, sB, t, t, v, m, oM, na saturation index (ssi), remaining phosphorus (p-rem), and micronutrients ( Zn, fe, Mn, cu and B). the data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, followed by principal component and cluster analyses. Geostatistics were used to check and quantify the degree of spatial dependence of properties, represented by principal components. the principal component analysis allowed a dimensional reduction of the problem, providing interpretable components, with little information loss. despite the characteristic information loss of principal component analysis, the combination of this technique with geostatistical analysis was efficient for the quantification and determination of the structure of spatial dependence of soil fertility. in general, the availability of soil mineral nutrients was low and the levels of acidity and exchangeable al were high. index-terms: Coffea arabica l., precision agriculture, principal components, cluster analysis.
-Differentiating coffees through the notion of terroirs allows us to determine potential areas for specialty coffee production and to characterize the type of coffee in these areas, exploring their potential. The objective of this work was to study spatial variability quality and to characterize and delimit terroirs in coffee crop production in Araponga municipality, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, using sensorial evaluation. The data were collected from four crops, from altitudes ranging from 770 to 1270 m, with the extract increasing from low to high. In each plot of crops, samples of cherry fruits were collected, dried, benefited, subjected to sensorial analysis and given grades ranging from 0 to 100 points for the global drink quality and relative characteristics of honey, body, acidity, flavor and equilibrium. The spatial variability of the quality was analyzed using the Moran Index. To define coffee production terroirs, average quality grades were compared through separation tests and the individual values of the plots were subjected to an analysis of groupings. The study was efficient in identifying terroirs for mountain coffee culture, therefore allowing coffees to be differentiated as a function of their production locations. Araponga has more than one coffee production terroir characterized by two distinct altitude extracts.
