The purpose of the present research is investigating the effects of strength training done with classical weights and body weight on 200-metre freestyle swim time among 13-15 year-old male athletes. The total of 16 male athletes (13-15 years old), who train as competitor swimmers in Izmit area, voluntary participated in the research. The participants were separated in 2 groups via random method as experiment 1 (training with classical weights) and experiment 2 (training with body weight) groups. In addition to their 8-week normal swimming training, Experiment 1 group trained with classical weights for 45 minutes, 3 days a week; and Experiment 2 group trained with body weight. Before and after 8-week training program, 200-metre time of athletes were measures twice and their best scores were recorded. Collected data were analysed on SPSS 16 program using descriptive statistics, Mann Whitney-U and Wilcoxon Signed tests. According to the findings, 200-metre swim time performance development of swimmers, who trained with classical weights, were better at p<0,01 significance level.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
