Fibromatosis is a benign tumor that rarely affects the breast and is an unusual site for its occurrence. Whilst the definite etiology of breast fibromatosis is unclear, it may present itself following surgical trauma or silicone implant. Wide local excision with adequate safety margins is considered the standard of care. We review three cases of breast fibromatosis who were presented to and operated in the Oncology center, Mansoura universty (between April 2014 and August 2016). Two of these cases underwent wide local excision and primary closure of the defect whilst the other one was reshaped by mini latismuss dorsi flap.
Breast cancer is the commonest malignancy affecting females. Hormone-positive cancers carry a better prognosis. Many adjuvant and palliative endocrine therapies are in use, including surgical ablation. We retrospectively studied seventy-four patients who did bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO)/bilateral oophorectomy (BO) for factors affecting survival and prognosis. BSO was superior in overall and progression-free survival. Incidental ovarian metastasis carried a grave prognosis. Surgical hormonal ablation is a viable option with laparoscopic BSO as the approach of choice.
Incorporation of minimally invasive approaches such as laparoscopy and VEIL in the management of inguinal nodal metastasis from rectal cancer can have a great impact on the patient's quality of life without affecting the oncologic outcome.
Introduction Thyroid cancer is increasing in incidence globally due either to early detection (overestimation) or true increment. A recent debate concerns multinodular goitre (MNG) or toxic goitres which have classically been considered at a lower risk for cancer. Methods In this study, we enrolled retrospectively all patients with nodular goitre treated at our tertiary hospital and analysed their data with the aim of detecting the rate of cancer among different types of nodular goitre. We also studied predictors of incidental malignancy among thyroidectomies. Results A predilection for solitary thyroid nodules (STNs) was found in women of younger age, with STNs tending to be larger in comparison with MNG in the same age group. However, both types of nodules were at equal risk of harbouring malignancy. Thyroid Imaging Reporting and Data System (TI-RADS) and Bethesda scores were the only dependent predictors of malignancy within thyroid nodules. Conclusion The authors recommend management of both STNs and MNG using the same algorithm.
Background
Colorectal cancer represents a global health problem. Rectal cancer in particular is increasing and is believed to carry a unique epidemiologic and prognostic criteria.
Method
We herein study retrospectively the data of 245 patients from a tertiary center in Egypt. Clinico-epidemiologic criteria and predictors of survival are analyzed.
Results
The disease affects younger population without sex predilection. Prognosis is affected by age, nodal status, metastasis, and bowel obstruction.
Conclusion
Rectal cancer has unique criteria in the Egyptian population. A national population based registry is recommended to delineate the nature of the disease in Egypt.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
