Palavras-chave: levedura, microrganismos celulolíticos, probióticos, produção microbiana Sodium monensin and Saccharomyces cerevisiae in cattle diets: ruminal fermentation, nutrient digestibility and microbial synthesis efficiency ABSTRACT -The study was conducted to evaluate effects of sodium monensin, Saccharomyces cerevisiae and a mixture of both, in cattle diets, on ruminal pH and ammonia concentration, partial and total nutrient digestibility, and microbial protein synthesis in the rumen. Four Holstein steers weighting 320 kg and cannulated in the rumen were used.A 4 × 4 Latin square experimental design was used and treatments consisted of daily intake of: 200 mg of sodium monensin (100I); 100 mg of sodium monensin + 2.5 g of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (50IP); 200 mg sodium monensin + 5 g Saccharomyces cerevisiae (100IP), and 5 g Saccharomyces cerevisiae (100P) supplied daily through the ruminal canula. The diets containing 100I showed lower intestinal and total DM digestion, higher intestinal digestion of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and ether extract (EE), higher total digestion of crude protein (CP) and ether extract (EE) and higher apparent ruminal and total CP digestibility. The diets containing 100P showed lower ruminal CP digestion, higher ruminal NDF digestion, higher intestinal digestion of OM, C...
Palavras-chave: óleo de arroz, óleo de canola, óleo de soja, pH ruminal Feeding vegetable oil to lactating goats: nutrient digestibility and ruminal and blood metabolism ABSTRACT -The objectives of this trial were to evaluate the effect of dietary oil supplementation on intake, apparent total tract digestibility of nutrients, and ruminal metabolism in lactating Saanen goats. Four ruminally cannulated multiparous goats averaging 54±1.02 kg BW and 80 days in milk were used. Goats were fed a control diet (no oil supplementation) or diets supplemented with one of the following oil sources: canola, rice or soybean. A 4 x 4 Latin square design was used and data were analyzed using the MIXED procedure of SAS (2001) with means compared through orthogonal contrasts at 5% of significance. Dietary oil supplementation reduced apparent total tract digestibility of both neutral detergent fiber and nonstructural carbohydrates but contents of TDN did not differ among diets. Oil supplementation did not change the concentration of ruminal ammonia N and plasma urea N but increased ruminal pH and decreased milk urea nitrogen concentration (MUN). The inclusion of 5.1% of vegetable oils in the diet of lactating goat did not significantly affect nutrient digestibility and ruminal fermentation parameters. ABSTRACT. The objective of this study work was to assess crude protein fractions in structural components (leaves, stem and dead material) of Coastcross grass (Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers) under grazing, on winter, spring and summer seasons, in the Northwestern of Paraná, South of Brazil. Were determined CP, NDF, ADF contents and protein fractions, A, B1, B2, B3 and C. The analysis of CP showed great differences among months, but there was no difference among seasons. NDF and ADF in the stem were lower (p < 0.05) during the spring. The season did not affect (p > 0.05) protein fractions A, B1, B2, B3 and C of leaves. However, it was observed that the highest proportions of CP were B3 and A fractions. For the stem, the most important crude protein fraction is A, and it was observed that B1 fraction was lowest (p < 0.05) in the spring. Considering crude protein fractions of the Coastcross grass, in this study conditions, we can conclude that Coastcross grass presents adequate protein value for beef cattle production on pasture. Keywords: seasons, nitrogen, ruminants, CNCPS.Composição química e fracionamento da proteína bruta da gramínea Coastcross no inverno, primavera e verão no sul do Brasil RESUMO.
Evaluation of different phosphorus sources in the diet on ruminal parameters, microbial synthesis, nutrient apparent digestibility and plasma phosphorus in cattle ABSTRACT -This study was carried out to evaluate the effects of different phosphorus sources, in diets of growing cattle, on apparent partial and total nutrient digestibility; ruminal parameters; microbial efficiency synthesis and plasma phosphorus. Four Holstein steers weighting 280 kg and implanted with ruminal and duodenal cannulas were used. The experimental design was a 4 × 4 Latin Square and treatments were four supplemental phosphorus sources in the diet as follows:dicalcium phosphate (DP), supertriple phosphate (SP), monoammonium phosphate (MP) and Araxa rock phosphate (ARP).Phosphorus sources did not affect intake, fecal flow, apparent ruminal and intestinal digestibility of dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and non fiber carbohydrates (NFC). There was a lower phosphorus apparent absorption for ARP, differing of DP and MP. Animals receiving ARP showed higher intake, fecal flow, duodenal flow, ruminal disappearance and total disappearance for fluoride. Animals receiving ARP presented fluoride levels higher than those acceptable to avoid toxicity. Phosphorus sources did not affect plasma phosphorus, nitrogen intake, microbial efficiency synthesis and ruminal bacteria composition. Treatments did not affect ruminal pH and ruminal ammonia concentration. These results show a possible use for supertriple phosphate and monoammonium phosphate to replace dicalcium phosphate.
