The surgical management of Menière's disease presents a difficult and controversial problem and includes various procedures ranging from ‘placebo operations’ to vestibular nerve section. The situation is even more complex in the case where the only hearing ear is affected. We present a case of severe debilitating vertigo due to Menière's disease that was treated by chemical labyrinthectomy and cochlear implantation. This unique management strategy allowed restoration of useful hearing and relief of vertigo.
Nasal polypectomy is a common ENT operation. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) rhinorrhoea and pneumocephalus are rare complications. We present a patient who developed both these complications after biopsy of nasal polyps which subsequently proved to be an inverted papilloma. He had a defect in the ethmoid roof, which was repaired.Whilst endoscopic repair of CSF leak is increasing in popularity, in this patient because of his pathology and difficulty of access a more traditional lateral rhinotomy approach was made with a successful outcome. An overview of the management of these complications is presented.
Bilateral thalamic haemorrhage is an unusual complication of burr hole drainage surgery. We present the case of a patient with this rare postoperative complication of bilateral thalamic haemorrhage following burr hole drainage of a chronic subdural hematoma.
Background: Cesarean section, also known as a C-section, is one of the most common operations in the world. The present study was conducted to assess adverse events associated with C sections.
Materials and Method:The present study was conducted on 438 cesarean sections. Complications and adverse events associated with C section was recorded. Results: Age group 18-28 years had 210 patients, 28-38 years had 186 and 38-48 years had 42 patients. The difference was significant (P< 0.05). Adverse events associated with C sections was abortion in 5 cases, fetal distress in 12, malpresentations of fetus in 7, disproportion of fetus in 16, oligohydramnios in 4, preterm labor in 3 and postpartum hemorrhage in 9 cases. The difference was significant (P< 0.05).
Conclusion:Authors found that common adverse events were abortion, fetal distress, malpresentation of fetus, disproportion of fetus, oligohydramnios, preterm labor and postpartum hemorrhage.
