Palavras chave: sorgo, enzimas, frango de corte, desempenho.ABSTRACT -The present experiment was carried out at the Federal University of Paraná Experimental Station of Canguiri between 10/15/1997 and 12/04/1997. The main aim of the experiment was to evaluate the effect of sorghun as a substitute of corn on the mean weight gain of chicken. The experiment was carried out with addition of digestive enzymes. The chicken were raised in 3 feeding phases: 0-21 days (initial phase), 22-42 days (growing phase) and 43-49 days (final phase). Four levels of sorghun -0, 15, 30 and 45 % -were used in order to substitute corn in the diet, with the addition of 3 levels of digestive enzymes (0, 750 and 1500 g E/per ton of ration. The experiment was carried out with a total of 3 repetitions of each treatment following a total casually experimental delineation. On the 21 st day it has been found that the main weight gain of the chickens fed with 45% of sorghun was superior than the gain weight found for the chickens fed during 30 days with the ration containing 15% of sorghun. As for the 3 levels of enzymes used, no difference has been found in the weight gain in regard to the diet without sorghun. the results on days 42 and 49 were not consistent with the experimental results of the first phases, but sorghun did not show any negative effect , considering that the results thus obtained were similar to the ones obtained with only corn containing rations. Another important observation is that up to the level of substitution of 45% sorghun did not interfere with the chicken weight gain. This observation allows the conclusion that digestive enzymes addition the diet did not influence the gain weight.
In general, the average geometric diameter (AGD) of ration has not affected broiler's performance in experimental situations. The objective of this experiment was to investigate if such statement is true also for commercial farms and to evaluate the possible economic benefits of using larger ration particle sizes. For that, in the present work, ROSS broilers had theis performance estimated, from the 1 st up to the 42nd day of age, fed with rations of different particle sizes. The experiment was developed during August and September of 1998, in the experimental aviary from Cooperativa Agrícola Consolata Ltda. Statistical design was of random blocks and treatment were (AGD's): 0.833, 0.703 and 1.058 mm, in the pre-initial phase; 0.829, 0.703 and 1.086 mm, in the initial phase, and; 0.818, 0.649 and 0.912 mm, in the growth phase. Treatment's AGD's treatment showed influence (P < 0.05) on the consumption of chick ration in the pre-initial phase. Few modifications were observed (P > 0.05) in the acting of the other feeding phases and in the mortality of the birds. However, the gross margin related to treatments can be increased up to 2.78%, as a result of the decrease of the grinding and/or AGD's increase.
An experiment was conducted to evaluate the effect of different digestible amino acid profiles on the performance of broilers in two phases: from 1 to 21 days and from 22 to 42 days of age. At the end of the experiment, carcass yield and cut percentages were evaluated. Nine hundred and sixty AgRoss birds were distributed in a randomized block design with four treatments (four digestible amino acid profiles): Rostagno et al. (2000), Baker & Han (1994b), Degussa (1997) and those recommended by AgRoss (2000), with six repetitions and 40 birds per repetition (20 males and 20 females). The results showed that the four diets were able to provide the requirements of the birds, since no significant differences were seen among the treatments on the performance in the two phases and on the carcass yield and cuts at 42 days of age. Males had better yields of feet, head and neck, and lower percentage of abdominal fat (p<0.05). The best cost/benefit ratio was seen for the profile established by Rostagno et al. (2000) when diets were evaluated in an ideal protein situation.
Rações peletizadas proporcionaram às aves: maior conversão alimentar e mortalidade no período total (1 a 49 dias de idade) (P 0.05) in regard to the variation of the diets energy levels. Pelleted rations, on the other hand, provided to the birds greater alimentary conversion as well as mortality during the whole period of 1 up to 49 days of age (P < 0.05); smaller weight earning and larger alimentary conversion in the final phase (43 to 49 days of age (P < 0.05) and larger weight earning and larger feed intake at the initial phase (15 to 28 days of age) (P < 0.05).
