Bauhinia variegate L. is a multipurpose tree and its micropropagation holds great promise in agroforestry. The sterilized seeds were first inoculated on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium. Nodal cuttings from these seedlings grown in vitro were used as explants for micropropagation. Nodal cutting inoculated on the medium with various concentrations of BAP (benzyl-aminopurine) and NAA (£-naphthalene acetic acid) and separately generated varied results. Best propagation was recorded on MS medium supplemented with 1.0 µM BAP with 0.05 µM NAA. Propagated plants were successfully acclimatized and rooted in pots (6 cm diameter) containing soil and sand in1:1 ratio and then finally transferred to the field. All the data generated were analysed statistically using SPSS statistical package.
This paper includes 42 species and 7 varieties of Fissidens recorded from Nepal. The distribution of this genus in various geographical areas within the altitudinal range of 100 m to 3400 m has been mentioned. Fissidens sylvaticus var. calcuttense Gangulee, Fissidens sylvaticus var. auriculatus (C. Muell.) Gangulee and Fissidens strictus Hook. & Wilson have been recorded for the first time in Nepal. Keywords: Fissidens, Bryophytes, Mosses, Conservationdoi:10.3126/on.v4i1.504Our Nature Vol. 4(1) 2006 pp61-68
A series of 4-(2,5-dimethylpyrrol-1-yl)/4-pyrrol-1-yl benzoic acid hydrazide analogs, some derived triazoles, azetidinones, thiazolidinones, and pyrroles have been synthesized in good yields and structures of these compounds were established by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, mass spectral, and elemental analysis. These compounds were evaluated for their preliminary in vitro antibacterial, antifungal, and antitubercular activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37 Rv strain by the broth dilution assay method. Twenty one of these compounds displayed good antimicrobial activity, with a MIC value of 1-4 μg/ml. Several compounds 4c, 8-10, 15b-15h, and 16b-16d exhibited good in vitro antitubercular activity with MIC value 1-2 μg/ml. Further, some title compounds were also assessed for their cytotoxic activity (IC50) against mammalian Vero cell lines and A549 (lung adenocarcinoma) cell lines using the MTT assay method. The results revealed that these compounds exhibit antitubercular activity at non-cytotoxic concentrations.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
