Purpose: The goal of this research was to investigate the difficulties that deaf parents have when it comes to the academic performance of their hearing children. Methodology: Case studies based on qualitative paradigms were used for this study. Participants in the research were parents who were deaf themselves but whose children had normal hearing. The sample comprises of 14 deaf couples from two divisions of Punjab—Lahore and Gujranwala. The data collection method consisted of a self-developed interview schedule with open-ended questions. Thematic analysis, a qualitative method, was used to analyze the data. Findings: Deaf parents have to deal with a number of obstacles, the most significant of which are communication barriers, attitudes they confront, and misunderstandings held by the community as a whole, all of which limit their capacity to participate in their children's academic lives who have normal hearing. Implications: It was suggested to the various stakeholders that they should be required to play their respective contributing roles in the process of reducing the constraints that restrict the engagement of parents in the academics of their children on a consistent basis, beginning with the most fundamental level.
Purpose: The students with hearing impairment have the facility to use Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, Snapchat, TikTok, LinkedIn, and Twitter for their interaction with mainstream society. This study investigated the social media practices of students with hearing impairment studying at the college and university levels for their social inclusion in mainstream society. Design/Methodology/Approach A cross-section survey design was followed to gather data. The population of the research was hearing-impaired students enrolled in graduation in Lahore city. A sample of 85 students with hearing impairment was selected through a non-probability sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was developed and got validated by establishing validity with the help of relevant experts. Reliably was .81 estimated through Cronbach alpha. Findings: The inferential statistical analysis shows no difference in the social media practices on the basis of gender and level/degree of hearing loss, social media has added great value in integrating SWHI within mainstream society, but students are still unaware of using this platform for their broader social networking and academic inclusion globally. Implications/Originality/Value: The study will add in the existing body of the knowledge and will guide the students to use social media for inclusion in all segments of mainstream society in a better way.
<span lang="EN-US">This study was conducted to examine students’ perceptions regarding reading habits and to explore gender-wise, sector-wise, and grade-wise differences in secondary school students’ reading habits. The students (N=538) who participated in this cross-sectional survey were selected through a non-proportional stratified random sampling technique from district Lahore. The researchers developed a questionnaire comprised of four subscales (perceptions, purpose, preferences, and problems in reading) to measure students reading habits. They ensured the validity of the instrument from experts and calculated the reliability that was Cronbach’s alpha=0.802. Data were analyzed by using different statistical techniques (mean, standard deviation, and independent samples t-tests). The results of descriptive statistics indicated that students gave more preferences to reading than perceptions about reading, the purpose of reading, and problems in reading. However, the least contributing factor was problems in reading. Whereas the findings of independent samples t-tests showed a significant difference in students’ perceptions about reading habits based on gender and class. However, an insignificant difference was found in students’ perception of reading habits based on sector-wise (public and private) schools. Books of students’ interests may be provided in libraries to encourage them to read. Moreover, teachers may also arrange more reading activities to enhance students’ reading skills.</span>
In our cultural context, home management is a great challenge that is confronted by almost all adolescent girls. This quantitative study was conceptualized to explore the ground realities regarding the capability of young girls to manage their homes. The population of study consisted of all young girls enrolled in degree and higher education programmes of colleges and universities. A sample of 100 young girls (18-25 years old) was selected conveniently from 4 eminent public and private sector universities in Punjab. A self developed and validated questionnaire (cronbach Alpha: .91) containing components of home management including time management, money management, team work, cleaning habit, laundry, cooking and how to plan a menu containing 28 statements on three point Likert type scale was used to collect data. Personally collected data from the subjects were analyzed on SPSS. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was applied to calculate the mean difference among different home management skills and to see the mean difference in the expertise level of young girls in managing their homes on the basis of studying in different universities. Moreover, t-test was run to see the difference between the girls, belong to rural and urban areas. Frequency distribution of responses was calculated. Major findings revealed that young girls were not good in time management, laundry and cooking. Conclusions were drawn and recommendations to the families of girls, and universities for the inclusion of subject of Home Management in the curricula of respective department were made.
Adolescence is the most vulnerable stage of life, and children at this age require greater parental attention, care, love, and support. In today's world, young minds spend a lot of time on the internet. One of the simplest approaches is to use social media, which incorporates media and social connectivity sites. Social networking has become an important element of many young people's life nowadays. The majority of people use social media without thinking about the influence it has on their lives, whether positive or negative. We are more concerned with our virtual friends than the folks with whom we interact on a daily basis in today's techno-culture. Parenting is a complex and diverse task that entails a number of different behaviors that interact to influence children's prospects both individually and collectively (Darling, 1999). The current study aimed to examine parenting style and adolescent social media addiction. According to the findings, Kashmiri adolescents are subjected to authoritarian parenting approaches and are moderately addicted to social media. Male and female adolesc ents were found equally addicted to social media but the difference on the basis of locale (urban vs rural) and type of family (joint vs nuclear) was found to be significant.
China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is a blessing for Pakistan and China. China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) appears as a major ‘Prosperity Tool’ which can help Pakistan to overcome its economic problems. CPEC has been researched up till now in various trade and commerce fields but its most important linkage with education was hard to find. This study was aimed to identify the role of university teachers in developing awareness and providing guidance and counseling to their students regarding career opportunities existing in the projects of CPEC. All the teachers of public and private universities of city Lahore were the population of the study. A sample of 150 teachers was selected randomly from different departments of two public and two private universities of city Lahore. A self-developed and validated instrument was used to identify the role of teachers. Reliability index (Chronbach Alpha) of the instrument was α= .82. Results showed that teachers were playing their role to make students aware of the CPEC projects. They were also providing counseling informally to their students at higher education level regarding the career opportunities existing in the CPEC projects. There was no significant difference found in the role of teachers in providing career counseling to their students at higher education level about CPEC projects with respect to their gender, residential area, type of university, designation and years of working experience. It was recommended that universities should arrange seminars, workshops, conferences, panel discussions and brainstorming sessions for the sensitization of their faculty members so that they could create awareness among their students regarding CPEC and take measures for their career counseling.
The central purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate the existing condition of the inclusive schools working in the province of Baluchistan, Pakistan. Out of six divisions of Baluchistan, Quetta division was selected purposively. After conducting a survey, eight inclusive schools were taken as sample from the regular schools. An observation sheet containing the components of school ecology, instructional practices of teachers, curriculum adaptations, classroom management, infra structure of schools, and use of teaching aids in the classrooms was prepared. In eight schools, 48 observations (three observations in grade three and four each) were conducted. The results reflected that most of the children were at the mild level of disability and teachers were paying attention to special children but due to lack of training in deaf education and unavailability of assistive devices, the anticipated outcomes were not being obtained. The conclusions were drawn and recommendations to the Department of Education, Government of the Baluchistan were given for the improvement of inclusive set up.
