Resumo: O problema da avaliação das argumentações é um dos pontos que maiores dificuldades apresenta na teorização deste campo. Independentemente da tónica que os teóricos possam colocar na dimensão descritiva ou na dimensão normativa das suas investigações, o facto é que a avaliação é uma das molas da dinâmica interactiva e, simultaneamente, um dos corolários da argumentação como arte prática, ou seja, enquanto indissociável de tomadas de posição relativamente àquilo que nenhum conhecimento ou outra pessoa pode, verdadeiramente, decidir por nós: a construção e adopção de perspectivas. Considerando que nenhuma argumentação se esgota na avaliação de argumentos micro e abstractamente considerados, mas remete também para a própria representação ou imagem social do que seja «uma argumentação» -atestado, por exemplo, em frases como «se não me quer ouvir não vale a pena estarmos para aqui a argumentar» ou «assim não vale a pena; isto é um diálogo de surdos» -, procurou-se neste artigo abordar a pergunta «com que é que se parece uma argumentação?» de modo a destacarmos a importância e o peso que as representações da argumentação têm sobre o próprio acto social de argumentar e sugerir vias de enquadramento para uma reflexão sobre as competências argumentativas e para a ideia de uma literacia retórico-argumentativa.
