Die Einführung gibt einen Einblick in die aktuelle sozial- und kulturwissenschaftliche Identitätsdebatte, die weit über diesen Bereich ausstrahlt. Nach einem orientierenden Überblick werden im ersten Teil Modelle »dezentrierter« Identitäten vor dem Hintergrund »postmoderner« Individualisierungs- und Pluralisierungstendenzen vorgestellt: die Konzepte der »Bastelbiografie«, der »Patchwork-Identität«, des »flexiblen Menschen« sowie die Metaphern des »Vagabunden« und des »Touristen«. Der zweite Teil des Bandes ist den Prozessen der Fragmentierung und »Dezentrierung« kollektiver Identitäten im Kontext von Globalisierung und Migration gewidmet. Im Vordergrund stehen hier die Zugehörigkeiten zu Nation, »Rasse«/Ethnizität und Geschlecht. Abschließend wird das Konzept »hybrider Identitäten« vorgestellt, das im Postkolonialismus zum politischen Programm gemacht wird.
ZusammenfassungDer Anspruch der Ethnomethodologie, durch einen radikalen Perspektiven Wechsel soziologischen Forschens das methodische Fundament der sozialen Wirklichkeit freizulegen, wird durch die Explikation der theoretischen Grundkonzepte dieses Forschungsansatzes - Indexikalität, Reflexivität, dokumentarische Methode, Basisregeln - einer kritischen Prüfung unterzogen. Durch einen Vergleich mit einigen Konzepten der Sozialphänomenologie von A. Schütz, auf den sich die Ethnomethodologen durchweg berufen, wird das Spezifikum der „ethnomethodologischen Einstellung“ aufgezeigt. Das ethnomethodologische Programm einer „radikalen Forschung“, die nicht die reale Sozialwelt, sondern die subjektiven Wahrnehmungs- und Verarbeitungsformen der sozialen Realität zum Gegenstand hat, scheint unvereinbar mit einer materialen Sozialforschung, wie dargelegt wird, und wirft gravierende methodologische und wissenschaftstheoretische Probleme auf.
