Science education with focus on socioscientific issues has been considered a promising strategy to increase young people's interest for science. In this perspective, the discussion of the interrelations between sunlight and the chemistry of sunscreens, taking into account technological, social and environmental aspects, constitute a socioscientific topic of current relevance. Thus, in this paper we introduce the nature of sunlight and its effects on human skin. Additionally, a discussion of sunscreens is carried out by addressing the principles of operation and the reasons for its use in a social and psychological perspective. It also addresses the environmental and health consequences, as result of the use of certain compounds in the formulation of sunscreens.
This paper presents reports of some of the activities carried out in the Research Laboratory in Teaching of Chemistry, University of Brasilia -LPEQ/UnB. These reports characterize the conceptions concerning teaching-research-extension relations, associated with pertinent reflections on explicit theoretical and methodological assumptions used by researchers from LPEQ/UnB, aiming at contributing to the improvement of teaching and learning of Chemistry and to the initial and continuing training of teachers.Keywords: education through work; research in chemistry education; environmental education; teachinglearning process; teacher training and teaching History of Science in Chemistry. ResumoEste artigo apresenta relatos de atividades desenvolvidas no âmbito do Laboratório de Pesquisas em Ensino de Química da Universidade de Brasília -LPEQ/UnB. Tais relatos caracterizam as concepções referentes às relações ensino-pesquisa-extensão, associando-se reflexões atinentes, na perspectiva de explicitar pressupostos teórico-metodológicos utilizados pelos pesquisadores do LPEQ/UnB, visando à contribuição para a melhoria do processo ensino-aprendizagem de Química e das formações inicial e continuada de professores.Palavras-chave: educação pelo trabalho; pesquisa em ensino de Química; educação ambiental; processo ensino-aprendizagem;
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
