The shortage of reliable primary taxonomic data limits the description of biological taxa and the understanding of biodiversity patterns and processes, complicating biogeographical, ecological, and evolutionary studies. This deficit creates a significant taxonomic impediment to biodiversity research and conservation planning. The taxonomic impediment and the biodiversity crisis are widely recognized, highlighting the urgent need for reliable taxonomic data. Over the past decade, numerous countries worldwide have devoted considerable effort to Target 1 of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation (GSPC), which called for the preparation of a working list of all known plant species by 2010 and an online world Flora by 2020. Brazil is a megadiverse country, home to more of the world's known plant species than any other country. Despite that, Flora Brasiliensis, concluded in 1906, was the last comprehensive treatment of the Brazilian flora. The lack of accurate estimates of the number of species of algae, fungi, and plants occurring in Brazil contributes to the prevailing taxonomic impediment and delays progress towards the GSPC targets. Over the past 12 years, a legion of taxonomists motivated to meet Target 1 of the GSPC, worked together to gather and integrate knowledge on the algal, plant, and fungal diversity of Brazil. Overall, a team of about 980 taxonomists joined efforts in a highly collaborative project that used cybertaxonomy to prepare an updated Flora of Brazil, showing the power of scientific collaboration to reach ambitious goals. This paper presents an overview of the Brazilian Flora 2020 and provides taxonomic and spatial updates on the algae, fungi, and plants found in one of the world's most biodiverse countries. We further identify collection gaps and summarize future goals that extend beyond 2020. Our results show that Brazil is home to 46,975 native species of algae, fungi, and plants, of which 19,669 are endemic to the country. The data compiled to date suggests that the Atlantic Rainforest might be the most diverse Brazilian domain for all plant groups except gymnosperms, which are most diverse in the Amazon. However, scientific knowledge of Brazilian diversity is still unequally distributed, with the Atlantic Rainforest and the Cerrado being the most intensively sampled and studied biomes in the country. In times of “scientific reductionism”, with botanical and mycological sciences suffering pervasive depreciation in recent decades, the first online Flora of Brazil 2020 significantly enhanced the quality and quantity of taxonomic data available for algae, fungi, and plants from Brazil. This project also made all the information freely available online, providing a firm foundation for future research and for the management, conservation, and sustainable use of the Brazilian funga and flora.

A Estação Ecológica do Jardim Botânico de Brasília é uma área de conservação que encontra-se em meio à área urbana. Neste estudo buscou-se atualizar a listagem florística da área realizada em 2009, através do seu plano de manejo. Por meio de coletas e compilação de dados do herbário HEPH foram feitas as listas de espécies de angiospermas, pteridófitas e briófitas. Foram registradas 1.337 espécies, das quais 1.252 espécies são angiospermas, 47 são pteridófitas  e 38 são briófitas.

O Parque do Guará foi criado em 1968 e a Reserva Biológica do Guará em 1988, totalizando uma área contígua de 451,94 hectares. As fisionomias predominantes na reserva são a mata de galeria e o campo de murundum. Para o levantamento da vegetação herbáceo-arbustiva foram alocadas aleatoriamente no cerrado sentido restrito e nos campos 10 parcelas de 50x10m. Para o censo das espécies só foram consideradas os seguintes hábitos: ervas, subarbustos e arbustos. Na mata de galeria foi adotado o método clássico de caminhamento e as mesmas foram registradas. Englobando o registro de dados primários e secundários foram encontradas 704 espécies, 678 são angiospermas e 26 são pteridófitas. Destas, 10 espécies estão ameaçadas de extinção, duas podem ser endêmicas da REBIO do Guará e uma espécie é considerada rara.

O Bioma Cerrado é o segundo maior Bioma da América do Sul ocupando quase 25% do Brasil. Devido à alta riqueza, alto grau de endemismo e intensa antropização, o Cerrado foi incluído entre os 25 hotspots de conservação do mundo. O Distrito Federal está situado na Região Centro-Oeste, no Planalto Central, ocupando uma área de 5.814 Km.  Apesar de 11% estarem dentro de unidades de conservação de proteção integral, o DF apresenta números superiores a 57% de perda da cobertura vegetal original. O objetivo deste trabalho foi atualizar a lista da flora da EEJBB e JBB, que abrange cerca de cinco mil hectares e os tipos fitofisionômicos principais do bioma. A lista apresentada foi elaborada a partir de coletas a campo, pesquisa nos herbários HEPH (Jardim Botânico de Brasília), IBGE (RECOR), UB (UnB), CEN (Embrapa Recursos Genéticos e Biotecnologia) e dados bibliográficos. Até o momento foram reconhecidas 1904 espécies na área da EEJBB e JBB, distribuídas em 579 gêneros e 147 famílias. Desse total 1822 espécies, 551 gêneros e 126 famílias pertencem às fanerógamas. As criptógamas estão representadas por 79 espécies, 28 gêneros e 21 famílias. As famílias com maior riqueza de espécies foram: Fabaceae sens lato (201 espécies), Asteraceae (196), Poaceae (152), Orchidaceae (100), Melastomataceae (79), Myrtaceae (66), Rubiaceae (62), Malpighiaceae (57), Lainiaceae (48) e Malvaceae (46). São reconhecidas 23 espécies invasoras e ruderais. De acordo com a Instrução Normativa n°06 (23/09/08- MMA) quatro espécies se encontram na categoria de ameaçada de extinção e sete possuem dados insuficientes para tal classificação.

Pirenópolis apresenta diversas atividades econômicas e, além do agronegócio, pecuária e mineração, o município tem no ecoturismo uma das fontes de renda mais importantes de arrecadação. Para proteger o patrimônio natural da cidade é preciso aumentar o número de unidades de conservação a fim de perpetuar a biodiversidade do Cerrado e todos os serviços que uma área natural agrega. Desde a primeira visita técnica ao Mosteiro Zen Horyu-Zan Eisho-Ji sua diversidade florística foi constatada. Ao final de um ano de expedição foram coletadas 436 espécies de plantas, de 227 gêneros e 86 famílias botânicas, sendo que sete dessas espécies são novas para a comunidade científica e nove encontram-se em alguma categoria de ameaça da IUCN. Esses atributos apontam para o potencial da propriedade do Mosteiro em se transformar em uma unidade de conservação e, assim, cumprir sua missão de proteger o Cerrado.Palavras-chave: Pirenópolis, florística, espécies ameaçadas, Goiás, Cerrado. Floristic Checklist of the Zen Monastery Horyu-Zan Eisho-Ji: inputs for the creation of a conservation unit in the CerradoPirenópolis presents several economic activities and, in addition to agribusiness, cattle farming and mining, the municipality has the ecotourism as one of the most important sources of income. In order to protect the natural heritage of the region it is necessary to increase the number of conservation units to perpetuate the biodiversity of the Cerrado and all the services that a natural area adds. From the first technical visit to the Zen Monastery Horyu-Zan Eisho-Ji its floristic diversity was confirmed and recorded. At the end of one year of expeditions, we collected 436 species of plants from 227 genera and 86 botanical families, seven of which are new to the scientific community and nine are listed as threatened following the IUCN classification. These attributes point to the potential of the Monastery's property to become a conservation unit and thus fulfill its mission to protect the Cerrado.Keywords: Pirenópolis, floristics, threatened species, Goiás, Cerrado.

We evaluated the recruitment of plant species and their relation with edaphic attributes in a mine revegetated with sewage sludge in the Brazilian Federal District. Plant species in the revegetated mine and in remaining portions of Cerrado (savanna) within the mined landscape were sampled and identified. Then, samples of revegetated substrate and soils from Cerrado portions were collected, analyzed for chemical attributes and submitted to statistical tests. Results indicated that the remaining portions of Cerrado were colonized by 91 species (22% allochthonous species), and the revegetated substrate housed 62 species (55% allochthonous species). Multivariate tests showed that the edaphic condition built from the incorporation of sewage sludge into the mining substrate acted as filter on the assemblage of plant species. Despite the two study sites shared the same landscape, the Cerrado portions and the revegetated substrate did not share similar plant communities after a decade from mine rehabilitation works.
