In this poster we present an interaction language for the manipulation of an elastic deformable 2.5D display. We discuss a range of gestures to interact and directly deform the surface. To demonstrate these affordances and the associated interactions, we present a scenario of a topographic data viewer using this prototype system.
Re•play is a self-documenting construction kit for children to both share their designs with others and reflect on their own design process. Re•play consists of a set of angular pieces that can sense their connection and orientation. A virtual model is rendered in real time as a design is constructed, and an on-screen playback interface allows users to view models from multiple perspectives and watch how a design was assembled. This paper describes the early development of Re•play and describes potential directions for the documentation of physical designs.
The paper presents a study investigating the net-based learner autonomy of the first-year non-English major students studying in West Anhui University (WAHU). Through questionnaires and interviews, the study shows the problems in learner autonomy and presents a new perspective for the development of an auto-learning environment. The study reveals that students had difficulty adapting to net-based learning mode. Some proposals that the college, teachers and students could unite to tackle the problems in learning have been put forth as the solutions to the problems.
What's Cookin'? is a collaborative cooking system that helps people create meals together even when they're apart. It is a collection of augmented kitchen tools, surfaces, and computational representation of meals. Cooking is a social, shared, and sensory experience. The best meals bring friends together and engage all of our senses, from the sizzling of sautéing onions to the texture of toasted bread. Our tool allows people to cook together in a remote, synchronous, collaborative environment by mirroring the social, shared, and sensory nature of the cooking experience. It is particularly suited for collaborations that involve multiple parallel processes that work in isolation but also intersect at various times throughout the collaboration, most notably in assembling the meal.
