Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyse the perspectives of millennials interpreting da'wah communication through social media. The presence of new media in digital platforms has become an alternative medium for accessing information and entertainment. Design/Methodology/Approach: The study uses a case study methodology with in-depth interviews as the method of data collection. A total of nine audiences were informants from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei. Findings: The results indicate that the flexible quality of the social media entrenched in YouTube enables its audiencesespecially the millennialsto see and listen to preachers or study da'wah in any location at any time. Practical Implications: The study can contribute to promoting Islamic development in social media, e.g., YouTube channel. Originality/Value: This study contributes to compiles prior research and contributes among other digital media; YouTube has become a famous source of information. In light of the current media development, Da'i (a person engaging in da'wah) can use YouTube as a means of preaching (da'wah) and YouTube becomes an alternative media for millennials with a wide selection of proselytizing video content.
Indonesia has much marine tourism potential to be developed, but there has been a significant decrease of visits to the main marine tourism destinations in Indonesia, one of whichis Banten Province. Among the various factors that led to the decline of tourist visits, weak promotion strategy is suspected to be noteworthy. This research was conducted to analyse strategy and promotion activity regarding Banten Province during the last three years. The results show that the promotion strategy is not consistent with the strengths and opportunities that Banten Province requires and weaknesses and threats it must overcome to be a leading tourist destination in Indonesia.
Fast technological development has impact to smartphone technology. The smartphone users unconsciously become dependent to the technology. Media literacy to adolescents is important and it will give critical analysis in the access of media messages and create messages by using the media. This research aims at knowing media literacy to the uses of social media (Facebook and Instagram) among adolescents in South Tangerang. Theory of Media Literacy from James Potter was used as the main concept in the research. It used quantitative approach with positivism paradigm and survey research method. The data collection was used through questionnaire with purposive sampling technique which was defined as the sampling method. The research findings indicate that media literacy level among adolescents bases on the Individual Competence Framework that consists of three indicators: media literacy level on the basis of Use Skill, and it gets average value of 36.38 for 60.93% of the respon dents. It includes the medium category in the Critical Understanding indicators and it has average value of 47.85 from 51.72% of the respondents and it includes the medium category in the indicators of Communicative Abilities it gets average value of 27.34 from 59.77% of the respondents and it includes the medium category.
Television has a strategic position in constructing national identity. As part of the everyday life of the community, television provides a community-driven medium to construct its identity. In relation to the existence of mass media in the community and the issue of forming a national identity, there are unique problems that exist in the Sebatik Island of the Indonesian and Malaysian frontiers. These Indonesian people have no access to the broadcasting media, especially television, from Indonesia. This situation has persisted for several years, so the citizens of Sebatik Island use television broadcasts from Malaysia as their primary source of media communication. This study aims to examine how the people of Sebatik Island construct their national identity through the Malaysian television programs they watch daily. The methodology used in this study is ethnography with data collection techniques through observation and interviews of eight informants in September 2017. The result shows that the “mixed national identity” of Sebatik society is influenced by various factors and one of them is Malaysian television. Malaysian television programs also play a role as a socialization agent, among with other agents such as the presence of the community, the country, the organization, the culture, and the ideology.
