This research aims to develop literacy media in improving reading and writing skill of early class students in elementary school Padang Utara, Padang.This research uses R&D approach with 4-D developing model. 4-D model has main phases, those are defina, design, develop, and disseminate. The data were obtained based on the observation result using the observation sheet. Data were analyzed by using qualitative data analysis approach. Research subjects consist of teachers and students of SD Padang Utara, Padang. The results showed that literacy skills (reading and writing) in the early classes has an important role in determining the success of students' learning. Literacy media is proven to increase student's pleasure while reading and writing. This makes students interested in reading material so that it can enhance students' understanding of reading content.
This research is based on low quality of literacy mediais used by teachers in teaching reading in the early grades in elementary school. Therefore, this study aimed to produce a valid literacy media, practical, and effective in improving reading skills of elementary school students beginning classes. The subject of research is early elementary grade students in the District of North Padang, Padang City. Literacy media is being developed is a big book, image media, and calendar stories. Development activity using 4-D model of the stages define, design, development, and disseminate. Data obtained from the results of a validation study of literacy media, observation, use of literacy media, and the learning outcomes of students' reading skills after using the media developed. The results showed that literacy mediais developed make students interested in reading and feel happy with reading material, thus helping to increase students' understanding of the content of reading.Based on these results, can conclude that the model developed literacy mediahas been a valid, practical and effective use to improve reading skills early elementary grade students.
This research is motivated by the low quality of media literacy used by teachers in reading learning in the early grades of elementary school. This study aims to produce valid media literacy used in reading learning in the early grades of elementary school. This type of research is research and development with a 4-D development model consisting of the stages of defining, designing, developing and distributing. The research subjects were early elementary school students in Padang Utara Subdistrict, Padang City. Literacy media developed are big book and media images. Data obtained from the results of needs analysis, analysis of students, and the results of media validation validation by the validator. The development process carried out shows that students tend to like teaching materials that have bright colors such as yellow, green, and blue. Students also like animals, plants, and daily activities with colors that match reality. The development of literacy media as needed, makes students enthusiastic to read and interested in knowing the contents of the stories contained in media literacy. Based on this, it can be concluded, that validated media literacy developed is used in reading learning in order to foster literacy in reading early elementary school students.
