This paper is a study of the Selective Waste Collection System at the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Sao Paulo is the largest city in Latin America and one of the world´s largest, with a population of over 11 million people. However, although being an economic reference and having the largest industrial park and financial center of the country, selective waste collection and recycling reaches only 46% of households, that represent only about 2.6% of the waste collected in the city, and yet even this is very mixed with waste. Disposal of solid waste causes significant environmental impact, and its known that poor solid waste city management have major impact on health and on the local and global environment due to the physical pollution of soil, water and polluting emissions generated by the release of harmful gases; moreover there is an addition to the significant increased economic costs in handling such waste that were not treated properly from the beginning. The lack of Waste Management has a great impact regarding the pollution of soil and air factors, becoming one of the main causes of flooding due to lack of collection and inadequate disposal in soils and waters. This paper is a study of Solid Waste Management at the city of Sao Paulo, following regional and national objectives. By checking all the logistics of the process, it was possible to identify steps and actors that contribute to 2.6% of recycled materials in the city, of possible 35%. Finally five players of the system from different areas were interviewed that describe challenges and opportunities of the selective collection system that may end up bringing benefits to the city.
This study aims to validate the personal values that push up entrepreneurs to idealize startups in Brazil. The research respondents are incubated at SEBRAE’s centers, a Brazilian support service for micro and small companies, in Alto do Tietê region, São Paulo, Brazil. The empirical quantitative research used the PQV values scale, the Portrait Questionnaire Value, which evaluates individual values based on Schwartz's model of human values. Continuing the studies of this author, this research is made considering ten types of personal values and four areas that present the following indicators: 1. Conservation (conformity, tradition and security); 2. Openness to change (self-direction, stimulation and hedonism); 3. Self-enhancement (achievement and power); 4. Self-transcendence (benevolence and universalism or philanthropy). The scale contains 40 statements and describes people with different aims, interests and aspirations. A multidimensional scale (MDS), with the aid of R software, analyzed the results in order to position the values dimensions. The hypothesis that the predominant latent values are from the openness to change area was confirmed. Thus, the conclusion is that personal values related to openness to change, such as: self-determination, stimulation and hedonism or pleasure, are latent values in the entrepreneurs interviewed. These values are related to freedom, creativity, audacity and pleasure in their projects.
This study aimed to identify and analyze the interrelations between companies, research centers, universities, government and other relevant players in the micro region of São José dos Campos, focusing on the creation and diffusion of innovations as a strategy for regional development. To this end, we made an interview with 12 regional players Involved in this process. It is hoped the results expand the knowledge of regional development in technologyoriented areas, as well as the dynamics of territorial development in the micro region studied. It is an academic contribution in developing strategies for expanding competitive regions through incentives for innovation and technology transfer.
Abstract:The present paper approaches one of the most important themes in the business and economic areas since the second half of the 20th century: innovation; in particular for developing countries such as Brazil. For these countries, competitiveness is directly linked to the ability to foster and sustain a higher level of firms´ innovativeness. In Brazil, despite the overall economic and innovation conditions such as the presence of relevant innovation agents (i.e. universities, government, research centres and investors) and access to financing mechanisms as well as public policies which facilitated innovation initiatives have apparently been improved, innovation rates does not take off. So, considering this context, the present paper tried to examine what problems were hampering or inhibiting the improvement and increasing of the level of country´s innovativeness from the perspective of micro and small technology-based firms. The findings showed that there are still some problems such as lack of government support, funds and financing mechanisms as well as high costs of innovation and organizational resistances which play an important role pushing firms not to innovate.
Abstract:The present study has the target of understanding the process of internationalization of the Chinese automaker JAC Motors in Brazil, as well as identifying if the Brazilian group SHC that brought it to the country and controls its operations in the Brazilian market holds a sustainable organizational behavior. The theoretical basis used to understand the internationalization process was the economic theories described by Dunning and behavioral theories from Uppsala University. In addition, we looked at documents and data from the Chinese government in order to understand the policy towards sustainability and innovation processes in the country. Also a vast bibliographic research has been performed regarding the term sustainable organizational behavior in order to support the research made over the SHC group in which we approached the questions related to the interest the group had on JAC Motors, which drove JAC Motors to get into the Brazilian market, questions regarding sustainable management, resources allocation as well as aspects related to innovation and technology.
