During the period from February 2009 to September 2010, a mosquito (Diptera: Culicidae) survey was conducted in Jazan province the southwestern Region of Saudi Arabia,. A total of 29414 larval and 484 adult mosquitoes were collected from 41 sites, resembling 10 governorates. The collected mosquitoes related to 7 genera and 16 species. The genera were Aedes (A.) (1 species), Stegomyia (St.) (1 species), Aedimorphus (Am.) (1 species), Anopheles (An.) (4 species), Lutzia (L.) (1 species), Culex (Cx.) (7 species), and Culliseta (Cs.) (1species) and the mosquitoes species encountered were A. caspius Pallas, St. aegypti Linnaeus, Am. vexans arabiensis Patton, An. d'thali Patton, An. pretoriensis Theobald, An. Arabiensis Patton, An. turkhudi Liston, L. (Metalutzia) tigripes de Grandpre & de Charmoy, Cx. sitiens Wiedmann, Cx. decens Theobald, Cx. bitaeniorhynchus Giles, Cx. pipiens Linnaeus, Cx. quinquefasciatus Say, Cx. sinaiticus Kirkpatrick, Cx. tritaeniorhynchus Giles, and Cs. longiareolata Macquart. Cx. pipiens is the most prevalent species in Jazan region. It was encountered in 90 % of total collection sites. Cx. tritaeniorhynchus is less prevalent encountering in 80 % of total collection sites but An. Arabinesis was encountered in 70 % of total collection sites. St. aegypti, L. (Metalutzia) tigripes and Cx. sitiens were encountered in 50% of total collection sites. Cx. quinquefascitus, Am. vexans and Cs. longiareolata were encountered in 40 %, 30% and 20% of total collection, sites respectively. An. pretariensis, An. d'thuli, An. turkdi, Cx. decens, A. caspius and Cx. bitaeniorhynchus were the least prevalent mosquitoes in Jazan region encountered in only 10% of total collection sites. Am. vexans was the most abundant 57 % (17121), Culicine spp. 38.2 % (11416) , Anopheline spp. 1.5 % (433), St. aegypti 3 % (749) and each of Aedine, Lutzia and Culleseta were encountered less than 1%.

This study aimed to determine the recent status of the scale insects that infest the mango trees at Qaliobiya governorate during visiting four mango orchards (El-Khanka, Shebeen El-Qanater, Benha &El-Qanater El-Khayria, through twice visits monthly to each district for two successive years. This study was carried out to present an identification guide with key, diagnosis, important synonymes, figures & illustrations to the fourteen collected mango scale pests which included in the four families, Coccidae, Pseudococcidae, Margarodidae and Diaspididae; in additions to give an attention to the most serious species, with notes on the agricultural precautions which could decrease the infestation. Mango leaf morphology and anatomy is used to explain the reasons for the mango variety recommendation.

Nine scale insect species (Hemiptera: Coccoidea) belongs to four families were collected during updated survey at Qaliobiya Governorate for two successive years. A key with photographs and illustrations are introduced; the seasonal fluctuation and the population density of all stages of the most serious soft scale insect, Pulvinaria psidii Maskell (Hemiptera: Coccidae) were studied in relation to five main weather factors. Three predators, Rodalia cardinalis Mulsant, Chilocorus bipustulatus L. (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) and Amblyserius swiriskii (Athias-Henriot) (Acari: Phytoseiidae) were collected associated with P. psidii and their effect with the other meteorological factors are analyzed statistically using partial regression method to decide their contemporary effect. The half monthly variation was calculated and the number of generations of this soft scale per year were estimated throughout the two successive years of investigation to indicate the high infestation of this pest to reach 327 insect/ leaf at 1 st may, the lowest population density were during winter season. The efficacy of the alternative pesticides (Biological insecticides, mineral oils, IGRs) and organophosphorus insecticides for controlling this serious pest different stages during summer and winter field sprayings were applied to insure that: the summer spray was more effective than the winter spray, the mineral oils and soap gave high efficacy after two weeks of spraying and still increasing till the end of the experiment, without observed phytotoxicity; IGRs and biological insecticides started to give good efficacy after one month of spraying and also still to increase till the end, in addition to their safety effect, opposite to the synthetic insecticides that gave a very good efficacy at the beginning of the experiment and decreased gradually. Finely the application time is very important; the organophosphorus compounds must be replaced by these other friendly alternatives; rearing and releasing these predators must be used in this pest control management.

In the current study, the role of cotton leaf worm haemocytes and esterases in detoxification were recorded. The haemolymph was collected from the 6 th instar larvae which treated with LC 25 , LC 50 , LC 70 of three newly compounds extracted from wastes from natural origin, Cyano acetyl urea (CAU), Benzimidazolyl acetyl urea (BAU) from urea and Cyano acetyl urea (CAH) from rice straw as 4 th instar larvae. The mean of total haemocytes counts in haemolymph of untreated 6 th larval instar was 9430±35.78 cells/mm 3 . Data indicated an increase in the total haemocytes of treated ones with CAU, at LC 25 and LC 50 , BAU at LC 25 and CAH at LC 25, LC 50 of CAH the percentages of change were: 19.01, 14.31, 1.90, 21.00 and 14.55, respectively. In addition, the percentages of oenocytoid counts were increased in all concentrations for all compounds except for CAH (at LC 70 ) as it did not change comparing control count. On contrast, data cleared reductions in granulocytes in all concentrations for all compounds except for BAU at LC50 as they increased slightly (15.12%). On the other hand, the results were showed great differences in number of zones of esterase activity and in substrate specificity between treated and untreated samples. For instance, in the case of α -naphthyl acetate, 36 esterase bands were detected in control and treated larval samples with Rf ranging between 0.01 to 0.28. While, in the case of  -naphthyl acetate, 39 esterase bands were detected in control and treated larval samples with Rf ranging between 0.01 to 0.92.

The susceptibility to IGRs, moulting hormone agonist, mimic (tebufenozide) and chitin synthesis inhibitors match (lufenuron) was studied in the 2 nd and 4 th larval instars of the cotton leafworm Spodoptera littoralis (Bosid). Obtained results revealed that match was the more toxic against 2 nd larval instars at sub-lethal concentrations LC 25 and LC 50 (0.3 and 0.6 ppm, respectively) than mimic (1.1 and 1.5ppm, respectively). But LC 90 level was the same in the two IGRs. With respect to 4 th larval instar, match induced the higher toxic effect at all sub lethal doses than mimic. Biochemical analysis showed that match and mimic exhibited a severe reduction in the activities of the detoxification enzymes, acid phosphatase and esterases (α and β), as compared to the control. The enzymatic activities were inhibited with the increase in the time posttreatment and also with the increase in dose. Therefore, the tested IGRs, tebufenozide and lufenuron , may be not detoxify by these enzymes.

Efficiency of the chitin synthesis inhibitor lufenuron (cga-184699) on growth, development and morphogenesis of Schistocerca gregaria (orthoptera: acrididae).ABSTRACT This paper deals with the objective of investigating the effects of Lufenuron (CGA-184699) on the growth, development and morphogenesis of the desert locust Schistocerca gregaria. Five concentration levels (1000, 500, 250, 125 and 62.5 ppm) were given through the fresh plant food to the newly moulted (4 th or 5 th ) instar or late-aged 5 th instar nymphs. All results were obtained 24 h after feeding.The growth of Lufenuron-treated nymphs was profoundly inhibited because their weight gain was drastically reduced. Such reducing action of Lufenuron was dose-dependent after treatment of 4 th instar nymphs but at the higher two concentration levels after treatment of newly moulted 5 th instar nymphs and at the higher three concentration levels after treatment of late-aged 5 th instar nymphs. After treatment of the last instar nymphs, early or late-aged, the developmental rate detrimentally regressed as a response to the prohibiting action of Lufenuron on the development. In contrast, such rate was promoted during significantly shortened duration after treatment of 4 th instar nymphs, may be to accelerate the development for avoiding additional adverse effects of Lufenuron.Lufenuron exhibited an inhibitory effect on the adult emergence after treatment of last instar nymphs, regardless of the timing of treatment. On the other hand, Lufenuron exerted no effect on this vital process after treatment of 4 th instar nymphs. Moreover, the present compound, at certain concentration levels, induced the adults to emerge in a rate more than that on control congeners. However, the emerged adults suffered a morphogenic action of Lufenuron because different deformed females were produced in increasing % as, at least, the higher three concentration levels were increased. In addition, the adult females spent only shortened longevity and then died. The shortening effect was dose-dependent after treatment of 4 th instar nymphs.
