We give a global geometric decomposition of continuously differentiable vector fields on R n . More precisely, given a vector field of class C 1 on R n , and a geometric structure on R n , we provide a unique global decomposition of the vector field as the sum of a left (right) gradient-like vector field (naturally associated to the geometric structure) with potential function vanishing at the origin, and a vector field which is left (right) orthogonal to the identity, with respect to the geometric structure. As application, we provide a criterion to decide topological conjugacy of complete vector fields of class C 1 on R n based on topological conjugacy of the corresponding parts given by the associated geometric decompositions. We will show that if a dynamical system has enough constants of motion then a Moser-Weinstein type theorem can be applied for proving the existence of periodic orbits in the case when the linearized system is degenerate. Sci. Paris, Ser. I 344 (2007). Sci. Paris, Ser. I 344 (2007) 779-784 alors, pour chaque ε ∈ R suffisamment petit, toutes les surfaces intégrales I (x) = I (x 0 ) + ε 2 contiennent au moins une orbite périodique de X.
Using the framework of metriplectic systems on R n we will describe a constructive geometric method to add a dissipation term to a Hamilton-Poisson system such that any solution starting in a neighborhood of a nonlinear stable equilibrium converges towards a certain invariant set. The dissipation term depends only on the Hamiltonian function and the Casimir functions.MSC: 37C10, 37C75.
