Paranasal mucoceles are a type of cysts that evolve slowly and are asymptomatic; this poses a difficulty in diagnosing the patient because the symptoms can go unnoticed. The mucocele evolves unpredictably. On the one hand, it can become infected turning into pyoceles and on the other hand, it can invade important regions such as the orbital, cranial or genian regions, creating facial asymmetry. This is a retrospective case study of 37 patients diagnosed with sinus mucoceles, followed up by clinical examination and paraclinical tests such as CT and MRI scans. The biochemical components of the liquid from within the mucocele were analyzed and the following criteria were recorded: NaCl-, Cl-, Na+ and cholesterine as well as cellular components such as mastocytes, macrophages, hematocytes and leucocytes. In all cases, the treatment option was surgery with favorable post-operative and follow-up evaluation. The mucoceles that appeared post-operatively (maxillary and ethmoid sinuses) evolved more rapidly than the mucoceles that were induced byan external injury. Longer follow-up of operated patients permitted a more timely diagnosis of recurrences.
The progress made in dentistry during the latest decades is due, conceptually, to the new, systemic vision of man, which has also taken place in this field of medicine. In this context, the link between organic and psychic is indestructible. Thus illness is understood as a drama in which the somatic process has a psychic value, and the mental one has a body value. It is known that the morphological and functional integrity of the dental system, health and vigorousness, gives the individual a state of well-being that affects his somatic and psychic health, as any disturbance at this level entails repercussions in psychological and social behavior. Such a disruption is the total edification that seriously alters not only the dental system but the whole organism, putting various biological and psychosocial problems to the practitioner. The total expression represents not only a physical disability but also a psychological one. A special importance in studying psychological changes at total edentulous presents the psychological aspects of senile involution. This is not only a theoretical but also a practical importance due to the increase in the number of elderly people. Through the researches of the present paper we intend to present the reality of the psychological manifestations in the total edentation, which is objectified on different methods of psychodiagnosis in the first part, in order for the second part to be addressed to problems of prosthetic psychotherapy. The study comprises a group of 43 patients, of whom 24 were men and 19 women with total uni or bimaxilar edentation. Total edentation can be and is responsible for somatopsychic alterations, along with other pathogens, general, local, social, which sometimes can take a dramatic form, converting, where the area is also favorable, a pure somatic disease, for those who are not in psychopathy or even psychosis, although these latter cases are extremely rare and especially in youngsters, which would disrupt not only the persons behavior as an individual, but also their status, function and social integrity. The treatment of dental and psychological complex is mandatory for any patient, but especially for the elderly, where recovery is more difficult, with disease-specific disorders adding to those of senescence.
Beyond the acute character, two important aspects confer specificity to the dento-periodontal traumas: the age of the patients and the multidisciplinary attend of the therapeutic approach. The traumas, together with the dento-periodontal infections, are real pedodontic emergencies. Dento-periodontal traumas are lesions requiring careful examination to establish a correct diagnosis and a rapid establishment of appropriate treatment. They require a rapid diagnosis, an optimal therapeutic attitude, to resolve dento-periodontal structures and further harmonious development of the jaws. The coronary traumas that amputate the dental crown result from trauma that develop high intensity forces, with a point of application to the tooth cervical area, accompanied by other types of injuries. Radical status evaluation is performed paraclinically by imaging exploration methods. Information on root length, implantation, absence or presence of periapical diseases, endodontic treatment quality are fully provided by these methods.Clinically, the diameter of the roots of the teeth is evaluated. The analysis and synthesis of these data will allow the determination of the method of substitution and the planning of working methods. Material and Method: The study group comprises 39 children aged 6-16, most of them present for emergency treatment. Results and Discussion: The traumatic agents force exceeds the resistance and elasticity of tissues, causing discontinuities in the tissue structure, whether soft or rough. Conclusions: The provisional or final treatment of dento-periodontal traumas aims at restoring the morphological, functional and psychological integrity of the traumatized individual.
