Kanemit wurde aus δ‐Na2Si2O5 durch einen direkten Austausch von Na+ gegen H+ in wasserhaltigem Reaktionsmedium hergestellt. Mit Hilfe von 29Si‐, 23Na‐ und 1H‐MAS‐NMR‐Untersuchungen wurde nachgewiesen, daß der Kanemit ein Schichtsilicat der Zusammensetzung [NaHSi2O5 · 3 H2O]x ist. Bei der thermischen, wie auch bei der Entwässerung im Vakuum bei Raumtemperatur entsteht ein Monohydrat, in dem die Schichtstruktur weitgehend erhalten bleibt. Bei Temperaturen zwischen 100 und 110°C läßt sich auch eine Hydratphase der Zusammensetzung [NaHSi2O5 · 0,25 H2O]x nachweisen, in der aber eine veränderte Schichtsilicatstruktur vorliegt.

Doch war weder die Reaktionsgeschwindigkeit besonders groB, noch waren die Versuchsbedingungen hinreichend durchsichtig, urn tiefer in das Wesen des Vorganges einzudringen.Auch ist es seit D 6 b e r e i n e r langst bekannt, daB Knallgas-ahnliche Gemische in Beruhrung mit trocknem Platin oder Palladium so schnell katalysiert werden, daB W. H e m p e l a ) und C1. W i n k l e r hierauf mehrere Verfahren zur quantitativen Bestimmung des Wasserstoffes griindeten, die sich in der praktischen Gasanalyse seit vielen Jahren bewahrt haben.Auffallend war die von H o f m a n n und S c h n e i d e r untersuchte Katalyse insofern, als sie sich nicht an einem trocknen Kontakt vollzog, wo die Bildung einer stark verdichteten Gashaut und die Temperaturerhohung von seiten der Adsorptions-und der ReaktionswLrme eine Rolle spieleu, sondern an einem Kontakt, der dauernd mit groBeren Wassermengen in Beriihrung stand, wodurch diese Faktoren ausgeschlossen wurden.
