Objetivo: realizar uma revisão de literatura sobre o transtorno do espectro do autismo, discutir as necessidades orais desses sujeitos e propor diretrizes para os profissionais da odontologia para possibilitar a oferta de atendimento odontológico a pessoas com autismo em suas práticas clínicas. Material e Métodos: pesquisamos as bases de dados da Web of Science, PubMed e Cochrane Library, onde foram selecionados artigos de revisões sistemáticas, metanálises e ensaios clínicos entre os períodos de 2008 a 2018. Resultados: selecionaram 28 artigos que definem e discutem a condição do transtorno do espectro do autismo e sua relação com a saúde bucal. Os estudos também apontam as dificuldades de pais e profissionais de odontologia em relação à higiene bucal e ao recebimento desses assuntos em ambiente odontológico. Conclusão: refletir sobre essas práticas e novas abordagens, consideramos uma nova conduta profissional, visando elevar a qualidade do atendimento odontológico ao paciente com autismo.
Introdução: O crescimento e a maturação esquelética ocorrem durante a infância e a puberdade, onde são observados períodos de aceleração conhecido como surtos de crescimento. Este fenômeno pode variar entre os indivíduos e entre os sexos, ocorrendo cerca de dois anos antes no sexo feminino. Os principais métodos radiográficos para esta análise são a radiografia panorâmica, que permite avaliar a cronologia da mineralização dentária, a radiografia carpal e a análise do grau de maturação das vértebras cervicais C2 a C4 pela telerradiografia lateral, permitindo estimar o período de crescimento em que o paciente se encontra. Objetivo: Portanto, o presente trabalho objetivou expor por meio de uma revisão de literatura narrativa o método de análise da idade e maturação óssea, baseado na telerradiografia de perfil, enfatizando sua importância para o planejamento ortodôntico em crianças e adolescentes. Revisão de literatura: A avaliação da idade esquelética por meio da telerradiografia pode ser considerada um método valido e confiável, apresentando o mesmo valor clínico do que a avaliação por meio da radiografia carpal. O método de avaliação da maturação esquelética por meio da telerradiografia lateral foi descrita inicialmente por Lamparski em 1972, que examinou o crescimento e a maturação das vértebras cervicais com a finalidade de verificar se as alterações encontradas nas vértebras poderiam ser utilizadas na avaliação da idade óssea, ao invés da radiografia carpal. Para isto, Lamparski estabeleceu um padrão composto por 6 estágios de maturação óssea, utilizando as vértebras C2, C3, C4, C5 e C6 podendo concluir que as alterações maturacionais que ocorrem entre a segunda e a sexta vértebra cervical, podem ser utilizadas para avaliar a idade óssea de um indivíduo. Hassel e Farman (1995) modificaram o método proposto por Lamparski, e analisaram apenas as segunda, terceira e quarta vértebras cervicais, estabelecendo um Índice de Maturação das Vértebras Cervicais em seis estágios (iniciação, aceleração, maturação, transição, desaceleração e finalização). Considerações finais: Pode-se concluir que o método de avaliação da idade óssea presente na telerradiografia é confiável e útil para predizer o estágio de desenvolvimento em que o paciente se encontra e a efetividade do tratamento ortodôntico depende desse fator, uma vez que intervenções ortodônticas se mostram mais efetivas quando as estruturas faciais apresentam máxima predisposição para responder as suas influências.
O presente artigo tem como finalidade abordar orientações e sugestões para o atendimento odontológico de pacientes com necessidades especiais (pessoas com deficiência) e idosos nas clínicas de graduação, considerando as implicações da COVID-19. A partir da publicação de orientações nacionais e internacionais de biossegurança, cuidados em saúde bucal e condutas odontológicas, foram elaboradas diretrizes para esta abordagem clínica. Espera-se a disseminação do conhecimento, informações e adaptações necessárias no ensino para uma melhor assistência e contribuição educacional aos graduandos, além da realização das atividades práticas de maneira segura no ambiente universitário.
