As curvas de crescimento foram determinadas aplicando-se os dados na função Growth curves and deposition of body components in pullets of different strains ABSTRACT -The growth curves of egg pullets of semi heavy: Hy Line Brown (HLB) and Hisex Brown (HSB) and light strains: Hy Line W36 (HLW36) and Hisex White (HSW) were evaluated. Three hundred birds of each strain were assigned to a completely randomized design with four replicates of 75 birds. Body weight (BW), feather weight (FW) and body depositions of protein, fat, ash and water were weekly measured. The growth curves were determined by Gompertz function with data collections. The semi heavy birds were later than the light ones for BW, with greater body growth rates and weights at maturity. The HLW36 were 64.23 g lighter at maturity than the HSW. Data obtained for feather growth and protein deposition were similar, but the semi heavy birds showed greater weight at maturity (WM) than the light ones. However, for these components, the birds Hy Line had larger depositions than Hisex. HLW36 strain had smaller feather rate at maturity, making it three days later than HSW. The lowest protein deposition in the end of growth period caused the deviation of energy ingested for fat deposition in HSB birds and overestimated the WM in relation to HLB birds. Hy Line birds had later body ash composition and showed greater WM than Hisex. Among the studied variables, Hy Line birds had always heavier WM, however, the body water content of Hisex birds was greater and the maximum rates at maturity were later. This fact explains the similarity in the weight gain among the studied strains, once other body components were greater for Hy Line birds.
Dietary protein levels on the growing broiler dietsAbstract -The objective of this work was to determine crude protein levels on diet of males and females broilers from 22 to 42 days of age. Males (440) and females (440) broilers chickens Hubbard were distributed in a completely randomized design, in order to study five crude protein levels (15%, 17%, 19%, 21% and 23%) in a factorial arrangement. For male broilers, the protein levels had a quadratic effect on weight gain and feed:gain ratio. For females, the effect of protein levels was quadratic on weight gain and linear on feed:gain ratio. The dietary protein levels affected linearly the yield carcass for both sex. The females had higher abdominal fat and breast percentage than the males. The protein level recommended for male broilers is 21.70% and for females is 19.00%.Index terms: broiler chickens, dietary crude protein levels, performance.(1) Universidade Estadual Paulista, Dep. de Zootecnia, Via de Acesso Prof. Paulo Donato Castellane s/n o , CEP 14 884-900 Jaboticabal, SP.
Palavras-chave: cálcio, cinza óssea, digestibilidade ileal, fósforo, resistência óssea, tíbia Effect of phytase suplementation on performance and nutrient digestibility in diets of broilers ABSTRACT -A total of 520 1-d old male broiler chicks (Cobb) was fed a corn-soy-fat-free rice meal diet to evaluate the effect of phytase suplementation on performance and nutrient digestibility. The experiment was analyzed as a completely randomized experimental design with five treatments, eight replications of 13 broilers per replication. The percentage composition of the experimental diets were: positive control (PC) with 3000 kcalME/kg; 21.4% CP; 0.42% Pd and 0.96% Ca and negative control (NC) with 2940 kcalME/kg; 21.2% CP; 0.27% Pd and 0.90% Ca. Three levels of supplementation of Fitase 5000 Ouro Fino to NC diets: 500, 750 and 1,000 phytase units/kg of diet (ftu/kg) and their effects on uniformity, feed intake, weight gain, feed conversion, digestibility of dry matter, crude protein, Ca, P and energy digestible (DE), %DM and % as fed, and the concentration of Ca and P and bone resistance in tight of broilers at 20 days of age. The P digestibility of the diets with lower nutritional levels was inferior to the PC diets. The phytase supplementation improved P and DE digestibility, since the coefficients improved with the...
Palavras-chave: composição da carcaça, desempenho, exigência de metionina+cistina, frangos de corte, rendimento de carcaça Methionine+Cystine Requirement for Broilers at the Growing and Finishing PhasesABSTRACT -With the objective to determine the methionine+cystine requirements, 1440 and 1080 commercial Hubbard broilers were used, 50% of each sex at the growing and finishing phases, respectively. Six supplemental levels of DL-methionine (.0, .06, .12, .18, .24, and .30%) were added to methionine+cystine deficient basal diets. Body weight gain, feed intake, feed:gain ratio, carcass yield and composition, abdominal fat and plasma uric acid concentration were evaluated from 22-42 and 43-56 days of age. Based on the statistical analysis of the studied parameters during the growing phase (22 to 42 days of age), it is suggested to use .896 and .856% of total methionine+cystine for males and females, respectively. For the finishing phase (43 to 56 days of age), based in the statistic analysis and in the studied parameters, it is suggested to use .764% and .740% of total methionine+cystine for males and females, respectively.
Three experiments were conducted to evaluate the effect of β-mannanase (BM) supplementation on the performance, metabolizable energy, amino acid digestibility, and immune function of broilers. A total of 1,600 broilers were randomly distributed in a 4 × 2 factorial arrangement (4 nutritional levels × 0 or 500 g/ton BM), with 10 replicates and 20 broilers per pen. The same design was used in the energy and digestibility experiments with 8 and 6 replicates, respectively, and 6 broilers per pen. The nutritional levels (NL) were formulated to meet the nutritional requirements of broilers (NL1); reductions of 100 kcal metabolizable energy (NL2); 3% of the total amino acids (NL3); and 100 kcal metabolizable energy and 3% total amino acids (NL4) from NL1. The serum immunoglobulin (Ig) concentration was determined in two broilers per pen, and these broilers were slaughtered to determine the relative weight of spleen, thymus, and bursa of Fabricius. Throughout the experiment, the lower nutritional levels reduced (P < 0.05) body weight gain (BWG) and increased (P < 0.05) feed conversion (FCR) for the NL4 treatment. The BM increased (P < 0.05) the BWG values and improved (P < 0.05) the FCR of the broilers. The apparent metabolizable energy corrected for nitrogen balance (AMEn) values were reduced (P < 0.05) for NL2 and NL3. The BM increased (P < 0.05) the AMEn values and reduced (P < 0.05) the excreted nitrogen. NL3 and NL4 reduced (P < 0.05) the true ileal digestibility coefficients (TIDc) of the amino acids cystine and glycine, and BM increased (P < 0.05) the TIDc for all amino acids. The addition of BM reduced (P < 0.05) the relative weights of the spleen and bursa. NL2 increased (P < 0.05) the Ig values, whereas BM reduced (P < 0.05) the serum IgA, IgG, and IgM values of the broilers. This study indicates that using suboptimal nutrient levels leads to losses in production parameters, whereas BM-supplemented diets were effective in improving performance, energy values, and TIDc levels of amino acids and immune response of broilers.
