Resumo: Com o presente artigo, pretendemos analisar o território chamado de Cabo Norte (Amapá), durante a primeira metade do século XVIII, como espaço que agregava diversificados grupos sociais e interesses imperiais - especialmente os das Coroas de Portugal e França. Privilegiaremos as atuações da monarquia portuguesa e do governador do Estado do Maranhão e Grão-Pará, João da Maia da Gama. Portanto, entre outros documentos, o estudo analisará as correspondências trocadas entre Maia da Gama e o governador de Caiena e entre o primeiro e a Coroa portuguesa (por meio do Conselho Ultramarino). Pretendemos demonstrar que a consolidação daquele espaço como território colonial português foi pensada a partir de sua inserção em um contexto imperial, de sua peculiar condição fronteiriça com outras potências coloniais europeias e de sua efetiva ocupação.
Resumo: O presente artigo pretende analisar a política adotada por grupos indígenas aruã durante o século XVII. Tratava-se de uma "nação" que habitava a Ilha de Joanes (Marajó), o Cabo Norte (Amapá) e arredores e interagia com os mais diversos indivíduos e/ou grupos -portugueses, ingleses, holandeses, franceses, negros, mestiços, outros indígenas. A partir de bibliografia específica sobre o tema e do uso de fontes primárias diversificadas (cronistas, legislação, correspondências trocadas entre autoridades diversas, entre outras), priorizaremos as respostas dos aruã às políticas indigenistas adotadas pela Coroa portuguesa naquele rincão da Amazônia. Nossa hipótese afirma que a política seguida por esses índios possuía íntima relação com as políticas imperiais adotadas pelas potências europeias que atuavam na região.
Com esse artigo, pretendemos abordar a formação das elites locais de Belém e São Luís. Observaremos que, por um lado, a monarquia procurava garantir o monopólio das principais instituições de poder local, as câmaras municipais e as tropas de ordenanças, às elites residentes. Por outro, esses espaços eram procurados por esses grupos, que, alegando serviços imprescindíveis à existência da colônia, solicitavam privilégios que os equiparassem às superiores linhagens fidalgas – signos de distinção específicos, como os privilégios da câmara da cidade do Porto, e a transmissão hereditária do oficialato de instituições de comando e governo.
O presente artigo pretende analisar a formação dos aldeamentos missionários no Estado do Maranhão e Grão-Pará (Amazônia Portuguesa) durante a primeira metade do século XVIII. O estudo está baseado em bibliografia específica e documentação diversa (fontes primárias) – especialmente as cartas patentes dos oficiais indígenas, cronistas, legislação e correspondências diversas. O estudo objetiva descrever e analisar, do ponto de vista dos atores portugueses (governadores, missionários, entre outros), a estratégia de instalação dos aldeamentos enquanto instituição de ocupação e consolidação do território colonial português numa conjuntura específica: os conflitos fronteiriços que marcaram as relações entre as potências coloniais europeias naquele rincão da América durante o período mencionado (Portugal, França, Holanda e Espanha). Em síntese, pretendemos destacar, a importância dos aldeamentos missionários e a imprescindível imbricação entre políticas indígenas (destacando-se, portanto, também a agência dos índios) e políticas indigenistas para a consolidação do império português na região.
