Abstract. Purwantoro RS. 2016. Effect of growing media on seed germination and seedling growth of Aganope heptaphylla (Leguminosae). Nusantara . This study was carried out to explore the effect of growing media on seed germination and seedling growth of Aganope heptaphylla (L.) Polhill. The research was conducted in the greenhouse of Bogor Botanic Gardens nursery during two months from July to August in 2015. An experiment was carried out employing a completely randomized design with three treatments and three replications. The treatments were different sowing media: sand, rice husks, and sawdust. Each treatment had 15 seeds placed in plastic trays. The results showed that the germination percentage in the rice husk medium (75.6%) was higher and the peak germination value (0.55) significantly higher (at p<0.5) than in the other media. The medium of rice husks was found to be significantly best for the growth of the seedlings; it gave the highest growth in terms of seedling height (40.5 cm), number of roots (46) and the length of roots (11.2 cm).
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sifat antibiotik dari ekstrak tumbuhan Lasianthus terhadap aktivitas bakteri Pseudomonas aeruginosa secara in-vitro. Ekstrak yang diuji adalah daun Lasianthus laevigatus, L. furcatus, dan L. obscurus. Ekstraksi tumbuhan dilakukan secara maserasi bertingkat dengan menggunakan ekstrak n-heksana, etil asetat, dan metanol. Potensi eskstrak sebagai antibakteri diuji melalui penghambatan aktivitas bakteri P. aeruginosa dengan menggunakan metode kertas cakram pada media agar Mueller-Hinton. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak metanol pada daun L. furcatus memperlihatkan daya hambat tertinggi dengan zona hambat 12 mm (konsentrasi 50 μg), 19.5 mm (konsentrasi 100 μg), dan 20 mm (konsentrasi 200 μg), diikuti oleh L. obscurus dengan zona hambat 11 mm (konsentrasi 50 μg), 13 mm (konsentrasi 100 μg), dan 18.5 mm (konsentrasi 200 μg), sedangkan penggunaan ekstrak n-heksana dan etil asetat daya hambatnya rendah di bawah 10 mm, terkecuali ekstrak n-heksana pada daun L. obscurus daya hambat tinggi dengan zona hambat 11 mm (konsentrasi 50 μg).
Abstract. Purwantoro RS. 2017. Seed germination and seedling growth of Chiococca javanica (Rubiaceae) in relation to fruit maturation and media growth. Nusantara Bioscience 9: 111-119. Chiococca javanica is a plant having ornamental potential. The seeds extracted from the fruits were classified according to maturity stage: Unripe -yellow; ripe -reddish; and over ripe -dark-red and seed germination were done in two germination media: sand and rice husk. The statistical approach was a randomized complete block design with three replications. Analysis of variance indicated that the seeds of C. javanica from the ripe and over ripe fruit had higher significances (P<0.05) on germination capacity, speed of germination, mean germination time, mean daily germination, peak value and germination value than the seeds from yellow fruits. The effect of growing media on germination process showed higher significance in sand than that in rice husk. Similarly, mean daily germination in sand was higher than that in rice husk. All seedling growth parameters of the seeds from ripe and over ripe fruit showed significant different on number of leaves, shoot length, diameter of seedlings, number of lateral roots, roots length, fresh weight and dry weight of plants than the seeds from unripe fruit.
Abstrak. Purwantoro RS. 2016. Dinamika produksi vegetatif dan generatif Ixora pseudojavanica dan I. coccinea dalam merespons beberapa faktor klimatik. Pros Sem Nas Masy Biodiv Indon 2: [65][66][67][68][69][70]. Studi dinamika produksi vegetatif dan generatif pada Ixora pseudojavanica Brem. dan Ixora coccinea Hort. dalam merespons faktor-faktor iklim telah dilakukan di Kebun Raya Bogor pada bulan Februari 2012 hingga November 2013. Parameter yang diamati meliputi jumlah bunga dan jumlah daun muda pada I. pseudojavanica dan I. coccinea serta faktor iklim berupa curah hujan, hari hujan, kelembapan udara, dan suhu udara. Analisis statistik deskriptif dan analisis regresi linier berganda digunakan untuk menganalisis data hasil pengamatan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa curah hujan, hari hujan, kelembapan udara, serta suhu udara maksimal dan minimal secara bersama-sama berpengaruh nyata terhadap jumlah bunga pada I. coccinea, sedangkan terhadap jumlah bunga I. pseudojavanica tidak berbeda nyata pengaruhnya. Keenam variabel tersebut tidak perpengaruh nyata terhadap jumlah daun muda pada I. pseudojavanica dan I. coccinea. Korelasi positif terjadi antara suhu udara maksimal dan jumlah bunga dan korelasi negatif terjadi antara jumlah daun muda dan suhu udara minimal pada I. pseudojavanica. Sementara itu, jumlah bunga pada I. coccinea berkorelasi negatif terhadap kelembapan udara maksimal. Variables observed included flower and young leaves production on each I. pseudojavanica and I. coccinea, and climatic factors namely rainfall, rainy days, humidity and temperature. Descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis were used to analyze the data. The results showed that rainfall, rainy days, humidity and maximum and minimum temperature significantly affected to flower production of I. coccinea, but not for I. pseudojavanica. However, those climatic components did not significantly effect to young leaves productions on both I. pseudojavanica and I. coccinea. A positive correlation occurred between maximal temperature and flower production and a negative correlation occurred between young leaves production and minimal temperature on I. pseudojavanica. Meanwhile, a negative correlation between maximal humidity and flower production on I. coccinea. Ixora pseudojavanica and I. coccinea were always found in flowering every season.
Siregar HM, Purwantoro RS, Praptiwi, Agusta A. 2018. Antibacterial potency of simple fractions of ethyl acetate extract of Begonia baliensis. Nusantara Bioscience 10: 159-163. Balinese people utilized Begonia baliensis Girm. (Begoniaceae) as traditional medicine to relieve cough. It was applied in a unique way by inserting the plant material into a bamboo column and then burning it in the fire. The liquid produced by the combustion process was used as a cough medicine. Based on this traditional knowledge, it is expected that B. Baliensis has antibacterial activity. B. baliensis plant collected from Bukit Sangyang, Penebel, Tabanan-Bali has been used in this study. The chemical compounds of ethyl acetate extracts were isolated/ separated by column chromatography. The obtained fractions were analyzed for antibacterial activity by disc diffusion assay against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus aureus. Chromatographic column yielded 14 simple fractions, whereas antibacterial test results showed 5 active fractions. Fraction 3 (F3) was active against S. epidermidis, fraction 5 (F5) against E. coli and S. epidermidis, while fractions 10, 11 and 12 were active only against Bacillus subtilis. Isolation and purification of the active components likely increased their potential as antibacterials.

Meskipun 76.5% dari 9000 macam sediaan jamu telah terdaftar di BPOM merupakan produk nusantara, tetapi kalangan masyarakat menengah ke atas dan kalangan medis masih belum dapat menerimanya. A study on the growth of vegetative stadium of Amorphophallus titanum (Becc.) Becc. has been carried out in Cibodas Botanic Garden. Two bulbs are planted as collection plants since June second 2000. The big one, before dormant was in generative stadium and the other bulb is small one, before dormant was in vegetative stadium. The result of this study indicate that the growth of the big bulb longer than small one. Vegetative character and reproductive at Argostemma from Mount Gede-Pangrango, Mount Halimun, and Mount Salak have been used for the identification of 101 herbarium specimens from Herbarium Bogoriense and new specimens from field. Identifying of herbarium specimens based morphology character on Argostemma hybrid group by previous author still identified as Argostemma montanum. Ovary at Argostemma consist of 2-3 celled, ovary 2 celled is found at A. montanum and A. borragineum, while the ovary of A. uniflorum account of 3 celled. Amount of flower do not range from 3-6, but between 1-8. Study on Argostemma morphology also can be concluded that in Mount Gede-Pangrango, Mount Halimun, and Mount Salak there are 3 Argostemma species, that is A. montanum Blume ex DC, A. borragineum Blume ex DC, and A. uniflorum Blume ex DC. Spreading of Argostemma vertically in Mount Gede-Pangrango, Mount Halimun, and Mount Salak range from 560-2,600 m above sea level. with spreading center 1,000-2,000 m above sea level.
