A descriptive study design was used to evaluate primiparas' mothers' self-care practices during postpartum period. Setting: The study was conducted at the postnatal departments at Ain Shams Maternity University Hospital. Sample size: The study was conducted on 665 primipara mothers during postnatal period. Sample type: Simple random sample technique was used to select the sample for the study. Tools: Three tools of data collections were used; a structured interview questionnaire, Likert scale and observational checklist. Results: Concerning post-natal self-care practices the study revealed that 90.6% from mothers were performing breast care correctly, 86.1% from mothers were performing perineal care correctly, 58.9% from them had healthy nutrition and 70.3% weren't implementing follow up visits. Conclusion: The study revealed that, the majority of mothers were performing breast care correctly, majority of mothers were performing perineal care correctly, more than one third of mothers had unhealthy nutrition during post natal period, and nearly three fourth from mothers weren't implementing follow up visits. The study revealed majority of mothers had positive attitudes toward post natal self-care. Recommendation: Conducting an educational program for mothers in Maternal and Child Health Centers and must be started during late pregnancy to inform mothers about routine self-care during postnatal period. Providing pamphlets and posters for primipara mothers to increase their awareness about post-partum self-care practice.
This study aimed to assess knowledge and satisfaction among mothers with gestational diabetes (GDM). A descriptive study design was utilized. The study was conducted at outpatient clinics and inpatient departments of Ain Shams Maternity University Hospital, on a convenience sample consisting of 200 gestational diabetes mothers. Two tools of data collection were used: a structured interview questionnaire, and -satisfaction part‖ of QOL scale to evaluated satisfaction among gestational diabetes mothers. The study results showed that, half of studied mothers were satisfied with a correct knowledge regarding gestational diabetes management as well as 85.3% of them were satisfied with management of hypoglycemia. There were highly significant association between mothers' knowledge and their age, education, and area of residence. Also the results revealed that, studied mothers were satisfied with social/economic, psychological/spiritual and family domains (66%, 64% & 50.5% respectively); however 65.5% of them were un-satisfied with health/functioning domain. The study concluded that, the studied mothers had correct knowledge regarding management of GD, effect of GD on mother's health, effect of GD on fetus health, management of hypoglycemia, and measuring blood glucose at home (62.1%, 64.2%, 67.4%, 90.5% & 63.2 & respectively). More than two thirds of the studied mothers were more satisfied with social/economic and psychological/ spiritual domains and GDM affects studied mother's health and functioning domains Recommendation: Developing awareness program to enhance pregnant mothers' knowledge and satisfaction regarding promotion of their health in relation to gestational diabetes.
This study was aimed to assess nursing student's perception regarding premarital counseling and examinations. Study setting: The study was conducted at Faculty of Nursing Ain-Shams University. Study design: A descriptive study design was used. Sample subjects and size: The study was conducted among students at third academic year at faculty of nursing 210 students. Study sample: A convenience sample. Study Tools: Self administrated structured questionnaire sheet, and Likert scale were developed to collect data. Results: The study findings revealed that, 74.6%, 75.7% of students had correct knowledge & positive attitude respectively regarding premarital counseling and examinations. There was highly statistically significant difference (p<0.001) between students' total score of knowledge & total score of their attitude. Conclusion: The present study findings revealed that, three quarters of the studied sample had correct knowledge & positive attitude regarding premarital counseling and examination. Recommendation: Integrating the concept of the premarital counseling and examination into the under graduating students.
The study was aimed to: Investigate student nurse's knowledge and attitude concerning uterine malignancy.Research design: A descriptive study design was used. Sample: convenient sample of 200 students was obtained from technical institute of nursing, Faculty of Nursing Ain Shams University. Tools: First tools, Self administered questionnaire schedule to assess student nurses' general characteristics and their knowledge regarding uterine malignancy. Second tool, questionnaire to assess student nurses' attitude regarding uterine malignancy. Results: (46%) among studied students had correct knowledge while (54%) among studied students had incorrect knowledge about uterine malignancy, more than 42% of studied students were reported the source of their knowledge was from education. (88.5%)among studied students had positive attitude toward uterine malignancy. There were statistically significant differences between studied students sex, marital status, academic year, qualification and knowledge. There were statistically significant difference between studied student marital status and attitude regarding uterine malignancy. There were statistically significant positive correlation between total studied student's knowledge and total studied student's attitude. Conclusion: More than two fifth of studied student's had correct knowledge and Majority among studied students had positive attitude toward uterine malignancy. The study recommended that; the undergraduate technical institute curriculum must be revised and the issue of uterine malignancy must be integrated in the undergraduate course specs. Further research are needed to investigate student nurses' practical skills regarding care of women with uterine malignancy at gynecological oncology department.
