This close agreement strongly suggests that identical initial (core) energy states are involved for both XPS and APS in this case. However, as a result of the increasing predominance of finalstate effects on the high-energy side of the APS threshold, there is no obvious correspondence between features in APS and the peak in the XPS core-level density of states from which the "binding energy" is usually determined.

Magnetic relaxation in one-dimensional exchange-coupled (CH^NMnC^ is found to be dramatically different than it is in three-dimensional exchange-narrowed paramagnets. A theory which accounts properly for the special long-time persistence of spin-correlation functions in one dimension is shown to explain the observed behavior.
