Objective: To investigate the associations between cardiovascular risk, insulin resistance (IR), b-cell function and thyroid dysfunction in She ethnic minority group in China. Methods: We enrolled 5080 participants of She ethnicity in this analysis eventually. We measured serum TSH and thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb) concentrations, blood glucose and insulin levels in both fasting and 2-h postprandial states, serum lipid levels, blood pressure (BP), brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV), electrophysiological parameters, including T peak -T end interval (T p-e ), QT interval and height of the R wave in lead aVL (RaVL), and anthropometric parameters. Results: The total prevalence of thyroid dysfunction in this population is 12.1%. Hyperthyroid subjects had shorter T p-e interval and QT interval in electrocardiogram (ECG), while hypothyroid subjects had shorter T p-e interval and longer QT interval in ECG than euthyroid subjects. Neither hyperthyroid nor hypothyroid subjects showed significant difference in BP, pulse pressure, and baPWV compared with euthyroid subjects. RaVL was slightly higher in hyperthyroid subjects, though the difference did not reach statistical significance (PZ0.08). Subjects with TSH!0.3 mIU/l had higher blood glucose, insulin, homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), and b-cell function (HOMA-b), whereas subjects with TSHO10 mIU/l had lower insulin, HOMA-IR, and HOMA-b than the reference group. There was a significant negative correlation, albeit weak, between TSH and HOMA-IR, HOMA-b after adjustment for confounding factors. Conclusions: Hypothyroid subjects may carry higher cardiovascular risk than euthyroid subjects. Moreover, IR and b-cell function are inversely correlated with TSH, which may be explained by the decreasing insulin-antagonistic effects of thyroid hormones along with increasing TSH.

Due to social transformation in China, more than 100,000,000 people are migrating within the country. Many parents are forced to leave their children behind when they migrate. In 2008, 58,000,000 children were living as left‐behind children, mainly in the rural parts of China (Zhang, 2009).Migration and its accompanying stressors may affect the mental health of the left‐behind children. This unique literature review of Chinese literature summarises the present state of knowledge and reviews the influential factors. Possible approaches to intervention and system reforms are discussed.A literature review was performed of published studies between 2001 and 2008. Databases used were Fujian Medical University Library Interface, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang Data, and VIP Information. The Chinese word for ‘left‐behind’ was used as a key word. Books, book chapters, monographs and studies on caring were searched electronically and by hand. Altogether, 53 items were found, discussed and grouped together. Migration affected the mental health of the left‐behind children in a passive way, especially their emotions and social behaviour.There is still controversy over how serious mental health problems are among children who have been left behind. Life events, personality, coping strategies and social suppor t can be regarded as four main factors that are predictive of mental health, which provides theoretical guidance for intervention. Suppor t and prevention of mental health problems in schools, in families and in primary care should be developed and studied.

Although the majority of intravenous infused cells were harbored in the lung, they did not cause deterioration of lung function. However, they did not activate the release of inflammatory/anti-inflammatory proteins, or stimulate angiogenesis or myogenesis in the old infarcted myocardium. Thus, intravenous administration of MSCs for chronic MI needs further experimental study.

Background: The outbreak of 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) could increase the risk of academic anxiety among medical students. Research has revealed that academic anxiety was a risk factor for self-handicapping, however, little is known about the underlying mechanisms that may mediate or moderate this association. This study examined the mediating role of procrastination and moderating role of hardiness in the association between academic anxiety and self-handicapping during the COVID-19 pandemic.Methods: This study measured academic anxiety, self-handicapping, procrastination and hardiness in a sample of 320 Chinese medical students, and explored the relationship between variables.Results: Results showed that academic anxiety was positively correlated with procrastination and self-handicapping, and negatively correctly with hardiness; procrastination was positively correlated with self-handicapping, and negatively correctly with hardiness; hardiness was negatively correctly with self-handicapping. Furthermore, procrastination partially mediated the relationship between academic anxiety and self-handicapping, and both the effects academic anxiety on self-handicapping and the mediating effect of procrastination were moderated by hardiness. The direct effect was stronger for medical students with lower hardiness, and the indirect effect was potent for medical students with both levels of hardiness.Conclusion: During the COVID-19 outbreak, the effect of academic anxiety on self-handicapping of medical students was affected by procrastination and hardiness. These findings suggest that we need to pay attention to the academic anxiety and procrastination of medical students during the COVID-19 pandemic, and we can intervene in self-handicapping by cultivating hardiness in the future.
