Background Wumei Pill (WMP), a famous herbal formula, has been widely used to treat digestive system diseases in clinical practice in China for centuries. We have found a correlation between the indications of WMP and the typical symptoms of pancreatic neoplasms. However, the pharmacological mechanisms of WMP still remain unknown. Methods In the present work, we used a network pharmacological method to predict its underlying complex mechanism of treating pancreatic neoplasms. Firstly, we obtained relative compounds of WMP based on TCMSP database, TCM database@Taiwan and TCMID database and collected potential targets of these compounds by target fishing. Then we built the pancreatic neoplasms target database by CTD, TTD, PharmGKB. Based on the matching results between WMP potential targets and pancreatic neoplasms targets, we built a PPI network to analyze the interactions among these targets and screen the hub targets by topology. Furthermore, DAVID bioinformatics resources were utilized for the enrichment analysis on GO_BP and KEGG. Results A total of 80 active ingredients and 77 targets of WMP were picked out. The results of DAVID enrichment analysis indicated that 58 cellular biological processes (FDR < 0.01) and 17 pathways (FDR < 0.01) of WMP mostly participated in the complex treating effects associated with proliferation, apoptosis, inflammatory response and angiogenesis. Moreover, 17 hub nodes of WMP (PTGS2, BCL2, TP53, IL6, MAPK1, EGFR, EGF, CASP3, JUN, MAPK8, MMP9, VEGFA, TNF, MYC, AKT1, FOS and TGFB1) were recognized as potential targets of treatments, implying the underlying mechanisms of WMP acting on pancreatic neoplasms. Conclusion WMP could alleviate the symptoms of pancreatic neoplasms through the molecular mechanisms predicted by network pharmacology. This study proposes a strategy to elucidate the mechanisms of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at the level of network pharmacology. During the past norovirus (NoV) epidemic season, a new GII.17 variant emerged as a predominant NoV strain, surpassed the GII.4 NoVs, causing outbreaks of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) in China. Here we report a study of an AGE outbreak in an elementary school in December 2014 caused by the new GII.17 NoV to explore the potential mechanism behind the sudden epidemics of the GII.17 NoV. A total of 276 individuals were sick with typical NoV infection symptoms of vomiting (93.4%), abdominal pain (90.4%), nausea (60.0%), and diarrhea (10.4%) at an attack rate of 5.7–16.9%. Genotyping of the symptomatic patients showed that individuals with a secretor positive status, including those with A, B, and O secretors and Lewis positive blood types, were sensitive to the virus, while the non-secretors and the Lewis negative individual were not. Accordingly, the recombinant capsid P protein of the GII.17 isolate showed a wide binding spectrum to saliva samples of all A, B, and O secretors. Thus, the broad binding spectrum of the new GII.17 variant could explain its widely spread nature in China and surrounding areas in the past two years.

BackgroundDengue, a mosquito-borne febrile viral disease, is found in tropical and sub-tropical regions around the world. Since the first occurrence of dengue was confirmed in Guangdong, China in 1978, dengue outbreaks have been reported sequentially in different provinces in South China transmitted by.peridomestic Ae. albopictus mosquitoes, diplaying Ae. aegypti, a fully domestic vector that transmits dengue worldwide. Rapid and uncontrolled urbanization is a characteristic change in developing countries, which impacts greatly on vector habitat, human lifestyle and transmission dynamics on dengue epidemics. In September 2010, an outbreak of dengue was detected in Dongguan, a city in Guangdong province characterized by its fast urbanization. An investigation was initiated to identify the cause, to describe the epidemical characteristics of the outbreak, and to implement control measures to stop the outbreak. This is the first report of dengue outbreak in Dongguan, even though dengue cases were documented before in this city.MethodsEpidemiological data were obtained from local Center of Disease Control and prevention (CDC). Laboratory tests such as real-time Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR), the virus cDNA sequencing, and Enzyme-Linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) were employed to identify the virus infection and molecular phylogenetic analysis was performed with MEGA5. The febrile cases were reported every day by the fever surveillance system. Vector control measures including insecticidal fogging and elimination of habitats of Ae. albopictus were used to control the dengue outbreak.ResultsThe epidemiological studies results showed that this dengue outbreak was initiated by an imported case from Southeast Asia. The outbreak was characterized by 31 cases reported with an attack rate of 50.63 out of a population of 100,000. Ae. albopictus was the only vector species responsible for the outbreak. The virus cDNA sequencing analysis showed that the virus responsible for the outbreak was Dengue Virus serotype-1 (DENV-1).ConclusionsSeveral characterized points of urbanization contributed to this outbreak of dengue in Dongguan: the residents are highly concentrated; the residents' life habits helped to form the habitats of Ae. albopictus and contributed to the high Breteau Index; the self-constructed houses lacks of mosquito prevention facilities. This report has reaffirmed the importance of a surveillance system for infectious diseases control and aroused the awareness of an imported case causing the epidemic of an infectious disease in urbanized region.

A novel cross-coupled bandpass filter using new substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) resonators is presented. The resonator is built up by a SIW cavity loaded with a complementary split-ring resonator (CSRR) on its top metal plane. The resonant modes of the proposed resonator are analyzed, with the Q-factor of the dominant mode also extracted. It is shown that our proposed compact filter operates below the cutoff frequency of conventional SIWs. No spurious responses, corresponding to the higher-order resonant modes of the resonator, appear within an octave band of the central frequency. Its attractive performance is validated numerically and experimentally. Index Terms-Bandpass filter (BPF), complementary split ring resonator (CSRR), substrate integrated waveguide (SIW).

MicroRNAs (miRNA, miR) have been implicated as promising blood-based biomarkers for schizophrenia patients. This study aimed to clinically validate miRNA as potential schizophrenia biomarkers. Plasma levels of 10 miRNAs were analyzed using qPCR in a cohort of 61 schizophrenia patients and 62 normal controls, as well as 25 patients particularly selected for a six-week antipsychotic treatment course. Positive And Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), Global Assessment Scale (GAS) and Clinical Global Impression (CGI) were administered to assess the clinical symptoms. The results demonstrated that a panel of miRNAs consisting of miR-30e, miR-181b, miR-34a, miR-346 and miR-7 had significantly increased expression levels with significant combined diagnostic value (AUC:0.713; sensitivity:35.5%; specificity:90.2%). In response to pharmacological treatment, expression levels of miR-132, miR-181b, miR-432 and miR-30e were significantly decreased. In addition, the improvement of clinical symptomatology was significantly correlated with the changes of miR-132, miR-181b, miR-212 and miR-30e expression levels. Furthermore, the decreases of plasma levels of miR-132 and miR-432 were significantly greater in high-effect subgroup than those in low-effect subgroup after six-week treatment course. We conclude that miR-30e, miR-181b, miR-34a, miR-346 and miR-7 combined as a panel are potentially useful non-invasive biomarkers for schizophrenia diagnosis. Markers miR-132, miR-181b, miR-30e and miR-432 are potential indicators for symptomatology improvements, treatment responses and prognosis for schizophrenia patients.

Abstract-A new type of evanescent-mode substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) bandpass filter is presented in this paper, with complementary split ring resonators (CSRRs) introduced on the top or bottom metal planes of the waveguide. Both positive and negative couplings are obtained between the CSRRs by changing their locations and orientations. In comparison with conventional SIW filters, the proposed filters are compact since their passbands are below the cutoff frequency of SIW. A third-and a fourth-order cross-coupled filter prototypes were designed using standard PCB technology. They operate at the same central frequency of 3.8 GHz, with their fractional bandwidths of 15% and 20%. The proposed filters have a wide upper stopband as the cutoff frequency of TE 10 -mode in the SIW is much higher than the central frequency. Their good performance is demonstrated by both the simulated and measured S-parameters.

Lithium (Li) has garnered considerable attention as an alternative anodes of next‐generation high‐performance batteries owing to its prominent theoretical specific capacity. However, the commercialization of Li metal anodes (LMAs) is significantly compromised by non‐uniform Li deposition and inferior electrolyte–anode interfaces, particularly at high currents and capacities. Herein, a hierarchical three‐dimentional structure with CoSe2‐nanoparticle‐anchored nitrogen‐doped carbon nanoflake arrays is developed on a carbon fiber cloth (CoSe2–NC@CFC) to regulate the Li nucleation/plating process and stabilize the electrolyte–anode interface. Owing to the enhanced lithiophilicity endowed by CoSe2–NC, in situ‐formed Li2Se and Co nanoparticles during initial Li nucleation, and large void space, CoSe2–NC@CFC can induce homogeneous Li nucleation/plating, optimize the solid electrolyte interface, and mitigate volume change. Consequently, the CoSe2–NC@CFC can accommodate Li with a high areal capacity of up to 40 mAh cm–2. Moreover, the Li/CoSe2–NC@CFC anodes possess outstanding cycling stability and lifespan in symmetric cells, particularly under ultrahigh currents and capacities (1600 h at 10 mA cm−2/10 mAh cm−2 and 5 mA cm−2/20 mAh cm−2). The Li/CoSe2–NC@CFC//LiFePO4 full cell delivers impressive long‐term performance and favorable flexibility. The developed CoSe2–NC@CFC provides insights into the development of advanced Li hosts for flexible and stable LMAs.
