Le cas de Tozeur où le partage de l'eau attribué à Ibn Chabbath peut être considéré comme un modèle du genre, montre un fractionnement modulaire du débit par un jeu de barrages et de partiteurs (khachba), à quoi succède au niveau terminal de la séguia, une division du temps d'arrosage entre les ayants droit. Celui-ci est mesuré en fractions de journée ou bien à l'aide d'une clepsydre (gadûs) qu'on retrouve de Ghadamès aux oasis de montagne.
