Caro Nicola, le avevo fatto una mezza promessa di mandarle uno scritto sulla nostra Cristina Campo per il fascicolo da lei ideato. Dico nostra, perché tanti anni fa tra i soggetti per la tesi di laurea che le proposi, lei scelse, con mio piacere, proprio l'opera di quella scrittrice, così delicata ed esigente, originale e controcorrente. Pensavo di mettere a confronto le versioni che vari poeti e poetesse italiane avevano proposto dei vertiginosi sonetti di John Donne, ma poi ho pensato che forse era per me più pratico, sul piano euristico, spostare l'accento dalla Campo traduttrice alla Campo tradotta, cimentandomi io stesso nell'ardua impresa. Per carità, non intendo farmi poeta alla mia età, ci mancherebbe. Il fatto è che un conto è confrontare le versioni altrui, applicando categorie traduttologiche che rischiano sempre di slittare nell'astrazione, altro conto è accingersi all'impresa, per sperimentare direttamente cosa sia possibile e cosa impossibile salvare dell'organismo testuale di partenza -senso, suono, ritmoin rapporto, s'intende, alla resistenza offerta dalla lingua d'arrivo. Impresa disperata, ma strumentalmente utile spero -a penetrare meglio, attraverso lo sforzo traduttivo e le riflessioni che lo accompagnano, la cifra stilistica della poesia campiana. Al tempo stesso cercherò di far luce sulla maggiore o minore compatibilità tra le lingue: questione di Stilsprache, insomma, non meno che di Sprachstil.
