In the peripartum period, these animals lose weight, however this excess weight loss after calving is related to the delayed occurrence of the first ovulation. Thus, nutrition is directly related to reproductive efficiency and utilization of fat in the diet of these animals with improvement in energy intake with indirect reflections on reproductive efficiency of the flock.
Brazil has a cattle production chain based on grazing production, which makes it inexpensive, but with a low profit margin. For that reason, it has gone through a series of changes due to competition with other animal protein production chains, such as pigs and poultry and also with the agriculture, which rapidly moves into areas that were previously occupied for the livestock farming. Thus, with a scenario of low profitability and high competition, it is necessary to find alternatives that allow its survival and profitability. Even with the largest commercial herd in the world, Brazilian livestock presents levels below its true potential, especially due to the low reproductive efficiency of the females of the herd. So that the activity becomes sustainable, it is important the inclusion of technologies to make use of the maximum productive capacity of these animals. Recently, many studies have been done regarding the supplementation of grazing females, and it presents itself as an essential alternative in both the birth or rearing processes, in view of the fact that the adequate intake of nutrients is essential for reproductive development in cattle. The Zebu extensive management system, which is used in most of the cattle farms in Brazil, is the main cause of the delayed puberty of these animals, which will interfere in the age they went into the breeding season and the age of the first calving. Also during pregnancy the proper nutritional support is extremely important, evidence shows that the development of the skeletal muscle and deposition of adipose tissue of the fetus may be altered in cases of malnutrition, with long-term effects on their performance in adulthood. This study aimed at pointing out some aspects that confirm the influence of nutrition on reproductive physiology of grazing females receiving supplementation.

The aim of the present study was to analyze seminal quality of young bulls subjected to different frequencies of gossypol supplementation. Forty-eight Nellore bulls, with 19 months of age and weighing 357.8 ± 7.2 kg, were used in this study. Animals were fed with 10.5 kg of standard supplement containing free-gossypol from whole cottonseed (WCS) at the following frequency: 3x/week (G3x), 5x/week (G5x) or 7x/week (G7x - Control). Additionally, a negative control was provided, and the treated animals received only mineral supplement (MM) ad libtum. The experiment lasted for 84 days and semen was collected at the beginning and at the end for analysis and cryopreservation. Fresh semen was used for initial analysis and plasma membrane integrity and sperm morphology were also determined. General motility using computer assisted sperm analysis (CASA), plasma and acrosomal membranes integrity, mitochondrial activity, and induced oxidative stress were assessed in post-thawed semen. The study design was completely randomized. Parametric data were analyzed by ANOVA and non-parametric data by the Wilcoxon test, using the statistical program SAS. Level of significance was set at 5%. Supplementation with WCS, regardless the frequency, increased total (P = .009) and head (P = .005) defects in comparison to animals receiving only forage and mineral supplement. Infrequent supplementation, particularly 5 times in the week (G5X), increased head (P = .026) and midpiece (P = .014) abnormalities. Sperm motility in fresh semen was lower in animals that received daily supplementation than those supplemented on alternate days (P = .021). Additionally, animals supplemented daily showed lower percentage of spermatozoa with intact acrosome compared to those supplemented on alternate days (P = .005). Thus, regardless the frequency of supplementation, free-gossypol supplementation affects sperm quality. Although the amount of free gossypol supplied weekly was the same among treatments, daily supplementation compromised sperm kinetics, differently from infrequent supplementation that led to sperm defects developed during spermatogenesis.
Palavras chave: Taxa de crescimento, nutrição, libidoProtein in ruminant feed: puberty, seminal quality and sexual behavior ABSTRACT. Brazilian ruminant production is made predominantly with grazing animals, and, in a dry season of year the crude protein (CP) of tropical forage is below 7% reducing microbial efficiency in using of nutrients from diet. Thus, protein restriction affects negatively the age of puberty, seminal quality, blood concentration of insulin and glucose, but seems to have no effect on sexual interest in ruminants.
Liver abscesses are considered sequelae of rumen acidosis and ruminits in cattle fed diets rich in highly fermentable carbohydrates and poor in roughage. Fusobacterium necrophorum is the main etiological agent and the second most frequently isolated pathogen is Arcanobacterium pyogenes, currently known as Trueperella pyogenes. Most of the time, liver abscesses are diagnosed and found in the postmortem examination during the slaughter of cattle, because there is rarely a manifestation of clinical signs. Macroscopically, liver abscesses are seen as an area of purulent inflammation, surrounded by a fibrous connective tissue capsule, which can vary in thickness and size, reaching up to 15 cm in diameter. Liver abscesses are identified as a huge economic problem for producers and also for the meat industry, since they are associated with a decrease in dietary intake, weight gain, carcass yield and the condemnation of the liver. Therefore, there is an incessant search to prevent and reduce the incidence of liver abscesses, mainly through alternative means to the use of antibiotics, such as the production of vaccines and the manipulation of the diets, since the use of antibiotics is contested by several countries due to the risk to induce antimicrobial resistance in humans. Thus, the objective of this review
SUMMARYThis study had objective to evaluate the integrity of the plasma membrane and semen quality of bulls supplemented with tocopherol. Bulls were used 16 with an average age of 24 months and average weight of 462.2 kg in two treatments: control group (CG) and group supplemented with tocopherol (GE-400 IU of tocoferol/animal / day) added to the concentrate supplement. The groups were kept in pasture supplemented with 4.5 kg / animal / day concentrate. Tocopherol supplementation was provided for 60 days. 4 semen samples were carried out: on days 0 , 30, 60 and 15 days after the end of supplementation. Semen was collected by electroejaculation , it has measured up the physical and morphological sperm characteristics. To assess the integrity of membrane used the hyposmotic test, eosin / nigrosine, Pope and trypan blue. The experiment was conducted in a completely
