FORESTRY TRANSPORTATION COSTS MINIMIZATION USING LINEAR PROGRAMMING Abstract The complexity of planning the forest transport leads to developing of a method to aid in the determination of the best routes to be used for trucks, aiming to the lower cost possible for de maximum volume of wood transported. Aiming to the solution of this problem of transport trough linear programming, the method reported in this work allows in situation of several wood origins and just one destine, analyzes on the ideal number of traveling, the optimum truck loading, the lower cost per wood unit volume and the maximum monthly truck mileage. The results obtained in this case study showed economic adequation of the method to transport planning using linear programming, accounting the increase of 22,7% in the wood volume delivery and reduction of 18,33% in the cost on the same number of trucks.
Cost Minimization of Forest Road Transport by Using the Integer Linear Program and Transport Cycle Time Optimization Abstract This study was about the decreasent of the costs of forest road transport, using the integer linear program and transport cycle time optimization. After obtaining all of the costs, consumed time and the current company picture, a total of three evaluations were done and are described below in settings. Setting I: The current company picture data was calculated as a comparative subsidy following the racionalization and optimization stages that are more time-consuming in the transport cycle. Setting II: This evaluation was done in terms of linear programation use, together with the loading and unloading waiting in line time racionalization. Setting III: In this evaluation, besides the linear programation use and waiting in line time racionalization, it was simultaneously used a time optimization and a foster transport speed. The acquired results were very meaningful, while the racionalization and optimization happened, the trucks rate and total cost successively decreased, resulting in better vehicles performance, and consequently, an increase in the gross and net drivers’ income. Even though there was a costs decrease and an outsiders’ income increase, wich was not enough to pay their total costs, that is, only the variable ones were totally paid and part of the outsiders’ fixed cost.
This work shows the Brazilian paper and pulp export companies position in relation of their outside competitors. The marketing strategies are related to product, price, promotion, distribution and other strategic variables, for the past and future periods. On the basis of the produced volume, exported volume and exported participation in the production, the companies were classified in two groups: EGI (companies with large interest in the external market) and EPI (companies with small interest in the external market). The results show an increase of the positioning importance of the strategies proposed for the future period, in the two groups opinion (EGI and EPI). Three other points are evidenced by the results as well: first, the main importance conferred to the positioning of the strategies by EGI; second, the importance conferred to the product strategies by EGI and EPI; and finally the importance conferred to the price strategies by EPI for the two periods. The marketing strategies are in an intermediate level. In general way this strategies can be considered less important than the price and product strategies and more important than the promotion and distribution strategies. The EGI companies believe the product strategies were the first more important and the marketing strategies the second one for the future period.
International marketing strategies in the Brazilian pulp and paper companies Abstract This work shows the importance the Brazilian pulp and paper export companies attribute to the product, price, promotion and distribution strategies and to the marketing strategic variables in the 1990-2995 and 2996-2000 periods. Considering the produced volume, exported volume and the export participation in the production, the companies were classified in two groups: EGI (companies with large interest in the external market) and EPI (companies with small interest in the external market). The results point to an increase of the importance of the strategies proposed to the 1996-2000 period in the opinion of the two groups of companies (EPI and EGI). It was verified minimum differences about the importance attributed to the product, price, promotion, distribution and marketing strategies by the two groups. Of the set strategies analyzed, the one that presented minor importance was the promotion strategies, for both groups and periods. On the other hand, the price strategies were considered more important to the 1990-1995 periods, for the two groups. In relation of the 1996-2000 period, the EGI companies, and the product and price strategies by the EPI companies considered the marketing and product strategies more important.
