A detailed experimental characterization and theoretical evaluation of optical as well as other relevant physicochemical properties of a series of 9,10-dihydro-9,10-diboraanthracene bis(8-oxyquinolinates) and a few other related systems is reported. The obtained compounds exhibit green luminescence with quantum yields of emission up to 63% in CH 2 Cl 2 . Single crystal X-ray diffraction studies indicate that 9,10-dihydro-9,10-diboraanthracene complexes exist either as bent conformers (stabilized by a weak intramolecular CH…O interaction bringing two 8-oxyquinolinato ligands closer to each other) or symmetrical ones (bearing both ligands related by the centre of symmetry and separated one from the other). Theoretical calculations revealed that the LUMO levels are lower for the bent conformers than for the symmetrical ones. This suggests that the luminescent properties of the studied compounds are affected by their specific structural properties. The obtained compounds were used as emitters for the construction of organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). The highest luminance of ca. 2,000 cd·m −2 was recorded for the device containing only 2.0 wt% of 1,6-difluoro-9,10-dihydro-9,10-diboraanthracene core in the poly(Nvinylcarbazole/2-t-butylphenyl-5-biphenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole (PVK:PBD) matrix. The fabricated OLEDs exhibit current efficiency in the range from 0.5 to 1.1 cd·A −1 .

This includes polyfunctional substrates of medicinal chemistry interest, such as analogues of psychoactive 5F-PB-22 and NM-2201 and two PDE5i nhibitors-Sildenafil and Vardenafil. Knowledge about horses from early medieval (10th–13th c.) Poland has been largely based on historical and archaeological data. Archaeozoological information has only been used to a limited extent. Therefore, this article aims to present the current state of knowledge on this subject, drawing on archaeozoological data from studies of horse bones. Apart from confirming earlier reflections regarding the sacred significance of the horse, additional information was obtained about specific individuals who were the subject of magical treatments. It turned out that sites with horse skeletons and skulls are few compared to the familiar presence of horse remains among kitchen waste. This contrasts with the neighbouring regions, where horses were buried more frequently among the Germans, Scandinavians and Prussians. Some new data have been obtained thanks to taphonomic analyses, which demonstrated that horse skulls of apotropaic status were not only exposed to public viewing but were also deposited under stronghold ramparts. Horses suffering from infectious diseases could also be buried under such ramparts. Considerations in the article lead to conclusions that horses were used in religious rituals as sacrificial animals, apotropaic deposits, as fortune-telling animals and cosmological figures.

The paper concerns one of the construction discovered within the early medieval, immediately adjacent to a fortified centre, ancillary settlement in kałdus (historical chełmno), which has been interpreted as remains of a supposed inn. it includes formal analysis of the construction and of movable objects found within, carried out in comparison with the results of studies over the spatial and functional layout of the settlement. The analysis was carried out in the context of theoretical knowledge on medieval inns, and especially of the content of the so-called mogilno forgery, where nonum forum cum tabernario in Culmine was mentioned.

Badania nad wymiarem sakralnym procesów osadniczych mają w nauce polskiej dość długą tradycję. Nowocześnie pojęte studia osadnicze powinny obejmować całość zjawisk przestrzennych odzwierciedlających różne kategorie aktywności ludzkiej w środowisku przyrodniczym, które związane są przede wszystkim z zasiedlaniem, gospodarką, komunikacją i sferą duchową. Aspekt sakralny bywa coraz częściej uwzględniany w analizach wczesnośredniowiecznego osadnictwa, co zresztą zgadza się z założeniem o komplementarności przestrzeni realnej i percepcyjnej. Autorzy prezentują rozwój dociekań nad wczesnośredniowieczną przestrzenią sakralną i komunikacyjną, który jest ważnym elementem prac badawczych prowadzonych w toruńskim Instytucie Archeologii. W tekście będącym jedynie prolegomeną dla dalszych dociekań, została unaoczniona potrzeba prowadzenia rozbudowanych badań wielowątkowych, połączonych z szeroką refleksją teoretyczną, a także terminologiczną. Dzięki takiemu podejściu możliwe staje się zrozumienie roli i charakteru przestrzeni w kontekście opisywanych kultur.

Tworzą ją domniemane grodzisko znajdujące się na szczycie góry, oraz grodzisko ulokowane na jej wschodnich zboczach. W okresie późnego średniowiecza na szczycie znajdował się kościół oraz cmentarz. Tekst wskazuje na podkreślane przez badaczy niedostatki w rozpoznaniu terenowym stanowisk oraz analizie materiałów zabytkowych. Dodatkowo skłania do refleksji teoretycznej pozwalającej stworzyć kulturoznawczą interpretację tej wyjątkowej przestrzeni.
