Resumo -O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar aspectos fisiológicos do desenvolvimento de mudas de café, cultivadas sob telas com diferentes características espectrais. Mudas de Catucaí Amarelo 2SL, no estádio "orelha de onça", foram dispostas em blocos ao acaso, com cinco repetições, sob estruturas cobertas individualmente com telas nas cores azul, branca, cinza, preta e vermelha, com sombreamento de 50%. Quatro meses depois, foram avaliados: o crescimento das mudas, os teores de pigmentos nas folhas, e os de açúcares solúveis totais e o amido das folhas e raízes. A tela vermelha foi a mais eficiente em promover o crescimento em quatro das sete características estudadas: altura das plantas, área e massa de matéria seca foliar e massa de matéria seca total. Para as demais características, não houve diferença entre as telas. A análise dos pigmentos mostrou que, à exceção da tela cinza, as demais não diferiram entre si quanto a esta característica. Nas folhas, a tela vermelha proporcionou maior teor de açúcar e de amido. Na raiz, os teores de carboidratos foram mais elevados com as telas vermelha e preta. Entre as cinco colorações de tela, a vermelha foi a mais eficiente na produção de mudas de café com maior vigor e qualidade, em que se destacam os teores de carboidrato e a fitomassa.Termos para indexação: Coffea arabica, carboidratos, crescimento, pigmentos, qualidade da radiação, viveiro. Physiological aspects of seedling development of coffee grown under colored screensAbstract -The objective of this work was to evaluate the physiological aspects of the development of coffee seedlings grown under colored screens with different spectral characteristics. Seedlings of Catucaí Amarelo 2SL, in the stage known as "orelha de onça", were arranged in a randomized block design, with five replicates, under structures individually covered with blue, white, gray, black or red screens with 50% shade. Four months after, evaluations were done for seedling growth, pigment content of the leaves, total soluble sugars and starch contents of the leaves and roots. The red screen was the most effective in promoting growth in four out of the seven studied traits: plant height, leaf area and leaf dry weight and total dry matter. For the other characteristics, there was no difference among the screens. The pigment analysis showed that, except for the gray screen, the other ones did not differ for this trait. In leaves, the red screen promoted higher levels of carbohydrates and starch. At the root, carbohydrate contents were higher under the red and black screens. Among the five screen colors, the red one was the most efficient in the production of coffee seedlings with higher vigor and quality, with outstanding carbohydrate contents and biomass.
Sesbania virgata (Cav.) Pers. is a bush, pioneer and occurs naturally in Brazil. It belongs to the Fabaceae family and it is indicated for recovery of degraded areas because of its rusticity and capacity to tolerate flooding. The present research was carried out to investigate the ability of S. virgata plants to adapt to flooding conditions. Plants containing six expanded leaves were placed in masonry tanks and were subjected to the following conditions: control (well watered), soil-waterlogging (water to the setup level of 1 cm above the soil surface – roots and parts of the stems flooded) and complete submergence (whole plant flooded). The evaluations were conducted on the day of the stress induction and after 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49 and 56 days of the treatment. After 15 days of return to normoxic environment, plant survival was assessed. Growth (height, dry mass of shoots and roots), vigour, carbohydrate content and the activity of enzymes involved in anaerobic metabolism (lactate dehydrogenase, pyruvate decarboxylase and alcohol dehydrogenase) were also evaluated. Our results suggested that sesbania plants are tolerant to flooding, because they can survive being submerged for 56 days. The reasons for this tolerance include the accumulation and use of carbohydrates in the leaves and roots, maintenance of growth and the activation of anaerobic metabolism, particularly in steps catalysed by the enzymes pyruvate decarboxylase and alcohol dehydrogenase.
Características fisiológicas e anatômicas de plantas de sibipiruna submetidas à hipoxia Physiological
Coffee (Coffea arabica) plants show a positive relationship between stomatal closure and formation and accumulation of H 2 O 2 . However, for coffee plants under water restriction such relationship has never been studied. The objective of the present study was evaluate the stomatal movement and the antioxidant capacity of coffee seedlings under different water regimes. Eight months old coffee seedlings of cv. Catuaí IAC 99 were submitted to field capacity, gradual and total suspension of irrigation during a period of 21 days. Evaluations of leaf water potential (Ψ w ) were performed in the beginning of the morning, and stomatal resistance, transpiration rate and vapor pressure deficit were determined at 10 am and 5 pm. All biochemical and enzymatic determinations were performed in leaves collected at 5 pm. Evaluations and samplings were performed at three days intervals. There was no variation in Ψ w during the evaluated period for plants in field capacity. However, an expressive decrease of Ψ w following day 12, reaching values near -2.5 MPa at the end of the experiment was observed for plants submitted to gradual suspension of irrigation. For plants submitted to total suspension of irrigation, Ψ w decreases after the sixth day, reaching -2.5 MPa at day 15. The decay of Ψ w in plants submitted to gradual and total suspension of irrigation reflected in increased stomatal resistance and in a decreased transpiration rate leading to an increase in hydrogen peroxide formation and, on final stages, increase in lipid peroxidation. As a conclusion, an increase in the activity of antioxidant enzymes as well as in the levels of ascorbate and dehydroascorbate was observed, which act in the detoxification of free radicals formed as result of the water stress. Entretanto, tal relação para a cultura sob restrição hídrica ainda não foi estudada. Avaliou-se o movimento estomático e a capacidade antioxidante em mudas de cafeeiro sob diferentes regimes hídricos. Mudas de cafeeiro cv. Catuaí IAC 99, com oito meses de idade, foram submetidas à capacidade de campo, suspensão gradativa e suspensão total da irrigação por um período de 21 dias. Foram realizadas avaliações do potencial hídrico (Ψ w ) foliar na antemanhã e resistência estomática, taxa transpiratória e déficit de pressão de vapor foram avaliados as 10h00 e 17h00. As determinações bioquímicas e enzimáticas foram realizadas em folhas coletadas às 17h00. Todas as avaliações e coletas foram realizadas em intervalos de três dias. Nas plantas em capacidade de campo não houve variação no Ψ w durante o período de avaliação. Wines are known for its high content of bioactive compounds that can be influenced by the region and climate where the grapes are produced. New regions of production are normally developed using techniques and standards for other traditional regions, but is important to characterize the wine profile, which is different according to the terroir, and can be important for future geographic indications. The aim of this study was to evaluate color, antioxidant activity, anthocyanin content and phenolic compounds profile in wines produced in Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Wines were produced in different wineries of the same region using the varieties Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc (red), Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc (white) and Syrah (rose), from municipalities of Cordislândia, Boa Esperança and Três Corações, located in the south of Minas Gerais State, Brazil. Wines produced in Minas Gerais State presented contents of t-resveratrol, total phenolics, anthocyanins, flavonols, flavanols and phenolic acids consistent to the contents observed in wines from traditional regions of production. However, the terroir and the grape variety can result in a differentiation of compounds observed in wines. Syrah red wines produced in Boa Esperança stood out with higher amounts of anthocyanins (24.29 mg L-1), phenolic acids (123,19 mg L-1 ) and flavonols (35.55 mg L-1), when compared to wines from the same variety from other municipalities and other evaluated red wines. Sauvignon Blanc wines from Boa Esperança presented higher contents of phenolic acids and total flavonols, when compared to wines of the same variety produced in Cordislândia. Chardonay wines presented higher total phenolics content, when compared to ohther evaluated white wines. Rose wine produced in the South of Minas Gerais presented the phenolic acids content of 36,33 mg L-1 and total flavonols content of 29,7 mg L-1. The highest antioxidant activity using the DPPH method, (% of free radicals scavenging - FRS) was observed for Syrah wines from Três Corações, (75.37%), but not different from Cabernet Sauvignon wines from Cordislândia (72.50%), values that can be correlated with the largest content of phenolics observed in wines as phenolic compounds (3009 mg L-1). No differences were observed in the contents of the antioxidant activity of white wines. This results indicate that the studied wines present the necessary nutritional and beneficial characteristics to compete in the supply of bioactive compounds during consumption, when compared to wines produced in traditional and different regions in Brazil and other countries.
