En las llamadas ganaderías “elite” los problemas metabólicos son frecuentes debido a la necesidad de obtener un elevado desempeño animal. Uno de los principales problemas observados en esos sistemas es la elevada oferta de alimentos concentrados. Dentro de los principales desórdenes metabólicos se destacan la acidosis ruminal, timpanismo, cetosis e hígado graso. Los perjuicios ocasionados por estos problemas no son visibles, ya que muchas veces no aparecen síntomas clínicos. Existen formas de manipular el rumen para evitar estos trastornos, a través de la dieta, del animal o de los microorganismos ruminales, como puede ser el uso de ciertos alimentos. Son necesarias más investigaciones sobre la influencia del manejo alimenticio para evitar la incidencia de estos disturbios y poder entenderlos mejor.
Según La Real Academia de la Lengua Española (http://www.rae.es/) se define investigar como la realización de actividades intelectuales y experimentales de modo sistemático con el propósito de aumentar los conocimientos sobre una determinada materia. Lo anterior implica que debe existir una indagación sistemáticamente y bien organizada, que en unión con la práctica experimental,permita la generación de nueva información y posterior conocimiento (MIYAHIRA-ARAKAKI, 2009). La investigación, es uno de los objetivos misionales de las universidades, y de especial cumplimiento en las de carácter público. Constituye un elemento de fundamental importancia en el proceso formativo profesional que propicia el aprendizaje mediante la generación de nuevo conocimiento y es a su vez hilo conector entre el claustro y la sociedad. Entonces la investigación en la categorización del debe ser de la universidad, no se trata de una labor más sino de una realidad que sustantivamente debe abordar y liderar, es una estrategia de enseñanza aprendizaje que permite flexibilizar mientras moderniza el currículo y lo hace universalmente válido.
<p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 8pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: medium;">La producción de bovinos en pastoreo se caracteriza por la múltiple interacción de variables, las cuales pueden afectar la conducta ingestiva de los bovinos. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el comportamiento ingestivo diurno y el rendimiento productivo de novillos de engorde en pradera del Brachiaria híbrido cv. Mulato II. La investigación duró 107 días, entre julio y octubre de 2010, en el Centro de Investigación Turipaná de Corpoica en Cereté, Colombia. Se utilizaron 72 bovinos de ceba, de raza cebú comercial con peso promedio de 314 ± 29 kg, los cuales pastorearon en un área de 12 hectáreas establecidas con Brachiaria híbrido cv. Mulato II. Se realizaron dos diseños experimentales: el primero, diseño de bloques completos al azar con submuestreo, conformado por tres tratamientos, 5, 6 y 7 animales/ha y dos repeticiones, para analizar la producción, calidad del forraje y ganancia diaria de peso; el segundo, un diseño de bloques completos al azar con tres tratamientos y tres repeticiones, correspondientes a nueve unidades experimentales, para el análisis de las variables de comportamiento ingestivo. La disponibilidad de forraje no presentó diferencia significativa (P > 0,05); en cambio, en las actividades de pastoreo, rumia total, rumia echado y rumia parado, el análisis detectó diferencias significativas (P < 0,05); para la ganancia diaria de peso, el análisis mostró diferencia altamente significativa (P < 0,01) en los diferentes tratamientos. Las variables de comportamiento ingestivo evaluadas y la ganancia diaria de peso vivo fueron influenciadas por la carga animal.</span></p>
El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar los datos de un estudio en ovinos de pelo en crecimiento en donde se evaluó el efecto del incremento en la ingestión de fósforo sobre la cinética metabólica del mineral, y en el cual se observó un animal con alteraciones en los flujos de fósforo, en especial la cantidad excretada en la orina. El caso se destaca ya que no es usual que en un rumiante se excrete grandes cantidades de fósforo por la orina. Aunque este animal perdió más fósforo por vía fecal, la excreción por orina fue catorce veces superior a la observada en el resto de individuos. Además, la eficiencia con que se absorbió el fósforo dietético por parte de este ovino fue 36% inferior. Lo anterior destaca a este animal por poseer una cinética metabólica del mineral claramente diferente al resto de individuos. Considerando las variables estudiadas no se pudo especificar con precisión cuál fueron las causas de esas alteraciones, debido a la complejidad de la homeostasis del mineral en ese tipo de animales.
En la actualidad, la producción animal debe ser realizada buscando minimizar su impacto negativo sobre el ambiente. El fósforo es un mineral esencial para la vida animal, por lo tanto debe ser ofrecido en cantidades adecuadas para los animales logren cumplir con las metas productivas establecidas. Sin embargo, es necesario cuidar que la oferta dietética del mineral no sea superior a la necesidad, para evitar excesos en las cantidades excretadas por las heces, que son la principal vía para eliminar el mineral del organismo en los rumiantes, y evitar efectos contraproducentes al ambiente. En relación a las exigencias, tanto de calcio como de fósforo, existen varios modelos de predicción que están siendo usados. Recientemente los modelos más antiguos han sido modificados, intentando disminuir la oferta del mineral. La técnica de la modelación, usada para estudiar la cinética metabólicas de estos minerales, está siendo permanentemente evaluada, y estudios recientes permiten conocer más detalles acerca del metabolismo de estos minerales. A pesar de las diferencias entre algunos modelos, resulta importante su aplicación para formular estrategias de alimentación que permitan optimizar la nutrición mineral y disminuir la excreción de minerales al ambiente, además de mejorar la economía de las empresas de producción animal.
