Neutrale MIII‐Komplexe dieser Geometrie werden aus den Permetallaten MO oder aus oktaedrischen MIII‐Spezies mit dem vierzähnigen, tripodalen Liganden 1 erhalten. Five‐coordinate rhenium or technetium is found in the trigonal‐bipyramidal complexes of type 2. Neutral MIII complexes with this geometry were prepared from the permetalates MO 4− or from the octahedral MIII species with the tetradentate, tripodal ligand 1. The monodentate ligand R in the complexes 2 can be readily substituted.
The high yield synthesis of the fully soluble acenequinone model compounds 6 and 7 as well as of the corresponding poly(acene quinone) derivative 4 is reported. Some of the diastereomers of 6 and 7 have been isolated and their structures clarified by NMR spectroscopy. This information was used as a basis for assigning the polymer's structure.
The anthracenedihan precursor 7 was obtained in a short sequence from its lower homologue 1. On thermal treatment, 7 generates the highly Diels-Alder (DA)-active anthracenodifuran "8". Its bisdiene character is proved by trapping with diquinone 9, which gives the [9]cyclacene derivative 10 and oligomeric material.
